OSRIC: something for the old schoolers

And the preview really looks like something you might see when you open one of these really old AD&D modules. If that doesn't appeal to old-schoolers around here, I don't know what would.

Golly, JGBrowning, you don't mess about, do you? That was amazingly quick.

That is what happens when you don't have to write out stat blocks that are a page long for each character or monster!

I'm putting funding, time, and creative effort towards OSRIC. I have one short article written, another almost finished, one adventure waiting a cover and another in proccess (writing that one myself) and am looking for more manuscripts.

The early bird gets the worm. The quality early bird keeps on getting the worms.

'Course, that means I just called all my customers worms. Hrm, perhaps I need to work on my marketing speech? :D

“I sir, am a wiggly worm, sir, and a wiggly worm, sir, is the lowest form of life here at Princestone U.”

I must say, it looks quite interesting. The page numbering is a bit wonky, and doesn't match the TOC. This is problematic, but can be corrected. Once I have the chance to print and bind my copy I will give it a closer look.

This is great. I'll have to bring this on a player-short game night and we'll play like it's 1985.

What plans are there to expand the SRD via OSRIC into other subjects that 1E books covered? (survival guides, etc)

(my luv of OSRIC know no limit? Can I do that? Is that too much?)

I have absolutely no idea. ;)

Having written and edited it, I quite deliberately released the right to use OSRIC for publication to the whole community. The situation at the moment is ANYONE could write a survival guide or splatbook of any kind, call it "compatible with OSRIC", and release it, for sale or for free, in print or .pdf or both.

So anybody could be writing anything. ;)

If people have a choice of a live commercially suppported 1e AD&D rule set then that could cause a division of dollars (or the fear of such) between 1e and the latest version.

Of course, that avenue of argument has the legs cut out from under it by WotC's agreement with Kenzer that allow Hackmaster.

OSRIC could have a indirect negative impact on WotC by reducing demand for Kenzer's products (& therefore WotC's slice of the Hackmaster pie). (Which, of course, is only saying that that would be a motivation for WotC to want to act against OSRIC, not that they would have legal grounds to.)

I suspect that OSRIC has a better chance to improve Hackmaster sales than to harm them. Hackmaster fans can easily make use of OSRIC-based products & OSRIC fans can make easy use of Hackmaster products.

Couldn't you say that about C&C too? C&C could be viewed as undercutting Hackmaster profits and yet it is moving ahead just fine. And C&C is more of a money maker than OSRIC will be, unless everyone gets behind it (not likely).

I think it will become just another variant d20 game that will increase the sales of C&C, Hackmaster, and WotCs old-school PDF downloads. Question: Is OSRIC a D20 system or an OGL concept? I'm assuming it's OGL since it has rules for Ability Scores.

p.s. That PDF file is awesome! A get trip down memory lane.
