[OT]Brett Favre

I'm personally still pissed they didn't flag Sapp for that hit on Clifton. I was glad to see Mike Sherman get in his face about it afterward though. :)

i for one am a die hard packer fan that LIVES in tampa bay. I can attest to the call as it was LEGAL but totally uncalled for. Sherman had EVERY right to come over and tell sapp what he thought of that play. Here is Clifton standing there 35yds from the ball walking over to the sidelines and here comes Sapp barrelling in like a MAC truck into him.

Not only does he flatten him (the ball was still in play) he THEN stands up and gloats and celebrates over the fallen and barely concious, non-moving body of clifton who then gets carted off the field.

THAT my good people is NOT how to play football. The hit was legal, sherman was pointing out that it was totally uncalled for celebrating like a roman gladiator over someone.

Sapp's a <space left intentionally blank for eric's Grandma> and I hope the league fines him heavily for the ridiculous attitude and unsportsmanlike conduct that he showed in the game. That was NOT football at it's finest but at it's worst.

as for Favre (Fah*vuh*ray) he had an off day, the look in his eyes shows he wasn't up to the game. In the end he throws Roger clemens fastballs that Neither jerry rice, donnie driver, nor terrell owens could have had ANY chance in HELL of catching. He tries too hard to win and that is his downfall..

Favre will retire when he's ready to go and when he doesn't feel like playing anymore, he's a class act and footbal will be a sadder place when he is gone but always will be remembered as a man who has the heart for this game rather than the pocketbook...

This is true. All the players on offense once possession is changed become defenders or the equivelent of defensive backs. You hardly ever see a penalty thrown when a tight-end crushes a blitzing linebacker...

when a LB runs into a tight end and the ball is right there then it's a different story. It's part of the momentum of the ball going through the holes created.

clifton wasn't anywhere near the ball nor making any move to get the ball back. Hell he was standing there doing nothing and here comes sapp barrelling into him.

Legal hit, cheap shot...bottom line.

Yep, basically the flap happened cause Sapp appeared to be happy with the hit he put on the GB guy. Now Sapp seems like a pretty decent guy so I will give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he did not know how much damage he had done.

Either way though it was not an illegal hit and Sherman had no business saying what he did and he had even less business lying later in the Press Conference about the incident. At the PC he said that he told Sapp how he was "disapointed" in the hit Sapp put on the GB player. Yeah right, I saw the footage. He said two words to Sapp as he walked by. The First started with "F" and the second word was "off". That is not professional and I think if anything he should be fined by the league for saying that in front of a camera on national TV.

Oh, I totally agree. But I was just basically going with the rules in my post. That was a dirty play, but legal. And of course when you aren't ready for the hit (as was the case) usually you are going to get hurt. I'm interested to hear what the NY sports radio guys (WFAN) say about it this afternoon....

As some one who roots for Tampa Bay and Lives here, NO COACH so be allowed to cross over and tell a player to F-off ever! Sherman should be fined for what he did.

Did Gruden charge over and drop the f-bomb on a Green Bay player for jamming his finger in Brad Johnson's eye? Of course not.

He said he's upset because Sapp was proud about what he did and celebrated. That's a total crock. He's just covering up that he was upset about losing the game and his inablility to get his receivers to run the proper routes.

Football is a physical game. If Sherman can't handle it he should go back and watch some of the hurt that Green Bay has put on the Bucaneers over the years.

As I said before it happens in every game every time there is an interception. BTW, he was not walking to the sideline, he was jogging towards the guy who had intercepted the ball. There is a big difference between the two and it does nothing for your case to alter facts to paint the guy darkly.

Also I don't remember seeing a single camera shot of the two guys right after the hit. When did you see this gloating over the still body. I would bet that Sapp actually kept right on running and didnt even look back.

I'm sooooo tired of people complaining about football players getting hit. It seems like the in thing this year is to stop hitting.

There's no such thing as a legal cheap shot. Physical domination is part of the game. If you have the opportunity to hit a player legally, you are derelict in your duty if you pass it up.

Gloating and taunting are wrong, but hitting a guy? Come on.

PS

The "polite" way to hit someone in the NFL.

Sapp charges forward at full speed then suddenly stops short next to the GB player. Taps player on the shoulder.

"Pardon me, would you happen to have any Grey Poupon?"

"But of course"

WHAMMMM!!!!!

:D

It might be a legal hit, but he should still draw a fine. The same thing happened twice before that I can remember. Two years ago a Brown blindsided a QB after a INT and was fined ~40K. Last year in the playoffs an Eagle blindsided Jim Miller and drew a fine. The only difference between the three is this is a lineman who got blindsided.

Another point, I have not seen the replays, but some of the sports guys on the radio said that there was helmet to helmet contact on the play and that Sapp jumped up to hit him. Finally, all that I read is that the cameras did not show the celebrations but it was on the scoreboard.

Finally I think that Sherman had every right to walk over there and tell Sapp that he that it was wrong, but he should not have gotten into a obscenity shouting match with him. Also, Sapp should not have pushed coaches at all, and shut his mouth instead of saying that "If I was 25, with no kids and a conscience" about how he felt about assaulting Sherman.
