[OT] Counting cards. What is it?

I think your best bet is to treat the game as if it was any form of entertainment, and just assume the money is already spent. Keep your winnings in a seperate cup from what you wish to spend, and anything you get out of the night is an added bonus to a round of poker, or slots, or whatever. I mean, since the house ALWAYS has better odds, just assume you wont win and be pleasently surprised when you do.

I've always wanted to just go to a casino (in Vegas, I guess, since it's close) and just get all the cheapies. Cheap buffets, cheap rooms, cheap shows, and so on. To heck with gambling, I'd rather spend my money on other stuff! :)

Do the casinos notice people like me? Do they care if someone just tries to gouge 'em for what they offer (in hopes of eventually getting a new-found gambler)?

Yeah, they notice everyone. Most Vegas casinos don't give away comps unless you spend some money. They track everyone -- how long they gamble, how much they gamble, etc. And they have prorated dollar amounts of what they will comp for what you spend.

The cheap buffets and cheap rooms, the casinos figure they will make the money back in other ways, they don't mind too much people taking advantage of them. If it gets the people there, then there is a chance of making money off them in other ways.

Cheap shows? Have you been to any Vegas shows? They are not cheap. You can get comp tickets to the shows, but you have to spend a lot of time out on the gaming floor placing bets in order to get them.

Well, I didn't figure on getting anything comp. I figure, take the money I save on not gambling, and I can buy my own comp stuff. Why would I want to spend $1,000, and get only a cheapo $20 comp gift? (for instance) If I want to do that, I'll donate it to charity...

Not off of me. :) I'm a cheap SOB...

Okay, I didn't know Vegas shows were expensive. Guess those are out. What else is there to do in Vegas, aside from visiting the buffet? (As in, cheap stuff to do...)

I'll have to visit the website posted above, in response to my queries...

Funny thing is, the most I ever made on Craps was in the Horseshoe. I got started on a streak and held the dice for close to two hours. I made a fair chunk of money, about $1000.00 on that streak.

I had a similar run when I was quite a bit younger, but had taken too much advantage of the free booze to capitalize on it. I was just putting my bet on the pass line and picking up my winnings each time.

After I lost the dice, an older guy at the table asked me if I knew how many 11's I'd just rolled back to back, and I said very proudly "nope". Turns out it was something on the order of 7, depending of course on my fuzzy recollection and any penchant for exaggeration he may have had. He'd been letting it ride, but didn't bother to share any gains with his benefactor :)

I still love craps, though.
