Another note, I take Hasbro's report of increased profit as a positive indicator of the economy. After all, people don't spend as much on entertainment when the economy is getting worse.
I've always heard the opposite. In lean times people look for diversions.

I have heard the same thing, arcady. Many people like cheap diversions in hard times. In terms of an initial investment, the 3.5 Core rule books are equal to about 10 movies at about $9 per movie. A friend has joked he spends less money on a night of gaming than a night at a club or a bar. So, gaming can be a relatively cheap hobby, or an expensive one for more committed enthusiasts.

Traditionally segments of the entertainment industry and organized crime are both extremely resistant to economic trends.

This doesn't mean that they don't hurt too when everything goes really bad.

If nothing else having high rates of unemployment makes for weird social issues that are likely to have an influence on everyone.

I mean being in Weimar Germany at the start of the depression is just bad.

Hasbro is up about 5% from this news. The next quarter is Christmas season, which is big for Hasbro. It's probably still a pretty sound purchase right now, though markets do tend to dip as the end of the year approaches.
