[OT] Hockey Fever: The NHL Playoffs Thread Part II

My usual random thoughts & comments...

1) Who told McCarty he was allowed to score three goals in one game? In one period?!? I know that he's scored a few pretty goals during his playoff career (most notably the Cup winner in '97 against the Flyers), but where did that rocket slapshot come from? It was a thing of beauty to behold, and I'm glad that Detroit has gained an early edge in the series :).

2) I'm amazed that Toronto almost managed to leave Raleigh up 2-0 in their series. That was an awesome goal late in the third yesterday, but I'm happy for the 'Canes and their fans, that they managed to win in OT.

3) I'd love to see Roy's 9-0 mark in games following contests where five or more goals have been allowed come to anb end tonight.

4) GreyOne -- why so bitter?

5) GO WINGS!!!

I think Grey wishs, like many other hockey fans, that it was THEIR team playing for the right to contend for Lord Stanley's Cup.

I have to admit, I was shocked it WAS McCarthy getting those goals, but I NEVER doubted he wasn't a character guy. There's a reason he's been on this team for this long. The hattrick was just one of those things. :)

Yeah well I had hoped for 2-0 lead for the Leafs BUT hey they got one and that's what matters. Just have to see on Tuesday if that's enough or not.

Tonight though will be VERY interesting. I just wonder who's got the momemtum tonight, Roy or the Wings? I do think that the Avs will get some better defensive play, other wise they will get killed AGAIN.

The Wings will win, but not without a serious fight. That has two meanings, since I'm sure that there will be at least one instance where gloves fly and fighting major penalties are dished out. Wings in 6 or 7.

I just have to say that this (Colorado/Detroit) has been quite a game so far. Good action, but talk about wacky! Colorado has now had and relinquished 3(!) leads; Colorado has scored 3 goals on Hasek on just about 20 shots; and Patrick Roy has been directly responsible for 2(!) goals against him. Very strange indeed. The only solace I have heading into overtime is that in each period so far Colorado has scored first, and Colorado has (slightly) been outplaying Detroit for the majority of the game.

Colorado wins 4-3!

Well, Chris Drury comes through again. And what a goal it was. I'd put that up for play of the week anytime. :)

On another note, this has just been a great year for playoff hockey. I think I've said it again, but it bears repeating. Four series have gone to 7, no sweeps, and now both conference finals are tied 1-1. I wouldn't bet against another 7 game series or two this round. My guess - Avs in 7. But what do I know?

Got that right purple, especially since it's been pretty wacky these past two games with the Avs and the Wings. Still glad Drury and guys like Tanguay stepped up their game. But I was EXTREMELY impressed by Forsberg redirecting it in OFF his skate. :)

Man I about died a few times during that game! Sometimes I feel like we need to leash Roy to the net. If it wasn't for the two bad goals the Avs woudl have really looked awesome. Now to win two at home, lose one in Detroit, and then finish it off at home in game 6!

Go AVS!

While I'm bummed at the way we lost in OT, I'm pleased that the Wings fought back from deficits three times last night. Colorado did slightly outplay Detroit last night, and earned the victory.

It should be noted, though, that Roy was not impenetrable in a game following a five goal debacle...that's good news from my POV :).

Yeah, you aren't kidding. I'd give Roy two assists on Red Wing goals last night. He sure hasn't looked sharp at all this series, which is good news from my POV. He can and will turn it up at some point, without a doubt.

And Fang? What I think they need to do for Roy to keep him near the net is put one of those shock collers on him, and put the peremeter somewhere within about 10 feet of the net. Might keep him from wandering somewhat.

Should be a good game on Wednesday.

Go Avs!
