[OT] Hockey Fever: The NHL Playoffs Thread Part II

Woohoo! The Avalanche won, even though it took seven games and not six, like I predicted. :)

Thank goodness it's over. I was really worried after the way the Kings manhandled them the last two games. Having Milan Hejduk made a huge difference, and Chris Drury is a hockey GOD! Seriously, he is the most clutch performer in hockey that I have ever seen. In the second period, the tension and pressure of the game just seemed to build and build, until I was completely caught up in it. When Drury carried the puck halfway down the ice, faked out one defenseman and jumped through two more, and then managed to somehow chop the puck over Potvin's shoulder to score, I was so excited that I yelled at the top of my lungs without even knowing it. What an incredible feeling. I swear to god, it was better than sex.

A true hockey fan! :) Yep, those nail-biters are fun, especially when your team comes out on top. I remember (quite) a few years ago when Russ Courtnall scored for the Habs in overtime in a game 7 against the Whalers. I was freakin' out, man! :)

Just one series left to go before the second round is set, and things are heating up on the frozen pond. Some thoughts regarding yesterday's developments...

NEWS: The Avs crush the Kings in a deciding Game 7.
VIEWS: The real Colorado squad finally decided to show up. If I were an Avs fan, though, I'd be concerned at having to bring back injured players like Forsberg and Hejduk before they were truly ready. I'd also not look forward to the treatment they're gonna receive from the Sharks.

NEWS: The 8th seeded Habs dispatch the top seeded Bruins.
VIEWS: Theodore was spectacular again, and foolish penalties cost Boston a chance to play a deciding seventh game on home ice. Zednik may return during the second round, and aside from that all is well in Montreal.

NEWS: Shane Corson is suspended for tonight's Game 7 between the Leafs and Islanders.
VIEWS: He got whipped in a fight and then tried to kick -- I can't believe this is true -- the opposing player. He deserves the suspension AND all of the taunting that's gonna be heaped on him from this point forward. Corson is a good, tough, player but this was ridiculous.

Aopy:
It's like folks who say dwarfs instead of dwarves ;) .

Lady Dragon:
I'd love to see the Leafs/Senators match up, but just to clarify, isn't Ottawa technically considered part of Quebec?

All Avs fans:
Congrats on pulling out the Game Seven victory. Maybe another historic battle with my Wings is in the cards :) .

Canadiens fans:
It's been a long time coming. I'm glad to see such a storied team grab a bit of their former glory. Keep it up against the *snicker* Hurricanes.

Blues fans:
Two words -- watch out!!

They had three defencemen on the ice?

I'm glad they lost. Give me run-and-gun hockey any day of the week.

It will be a happy, happy day for me when "the trap" becomes useless.

Just remember

The Devils snickered at the Canes too...and they were a helluva better team than the Habs.

Just keep that in mind.

Since my hockey predictions are so seldom correct (I was predicting a Blueshirts Cup victory last December...ha ha), I just had to bring this back from Thread One...

Oh, they will... :)

Do I lie? Huh? ;)

I'm still predicting an Avs/Wings Western final.

And GO HABS!!!
(They beat the Rangers for the 8-spot...they deserve respect)

Heck I was predicting that BEFORE the start of the First round. I already figured the winner of THAT series would go on to Win the Cup, especially if the Flyers couldn't pull it together...which they didn't.

Flyers...bah

I don't necessarily think the Avs will win the Cup, though...

If the Canadiens make it that far, they have a chance to take down the Avs.

Sure hope the Long Island Fishsticks get ELIMINATED tonight...
