[OT] How Proud I am of NYC

And of course, one also has to wonder if pre 911 new york would have handled this the same way. If that horrible disaster accomplished anything, it was bringing people out of their selfish boxes and hammering a solid community out of it. That they are doing what any community should do is unsurprising.

Being a former New Yorker, I firmly believe they would have reacted the same way. All 9/11 did was show the rest of the world what kind of people New Yorkers realy are.

You were born in 1983? I don't often get to say things like "Darrr, you were toddling around in nappies while I was trekking through the Amazon Jungle," but holy cow - in this particular case it happens to be true. And you were less than one year old when I got out of high school.

Want to feel really old? There are probably people posting on this board who were born in the 90s. Heck, there are definitely people playing D&D who were born after 1995, I know I started playing when I was 8 or so.

Just your happy thought for the day :)

I was bothered when I noiced people who were drinking legally who were born after Star Wars was released and that was a few years ago.

I was born before the moon landing. I even watched it since my parents propped me up in front of the TV.

My bad, sorry

First I want to apologize to everyone in the northeast for leaving my air conditioners on "High Cool" while I was out yesterday, my bad, sorry.

Second, Even before 9/11 New Yorkers were cool. Back when the officers who had a run in with Rodney King were acquitted there was rioting in many U.S. cities, in New York there was a spontaneous peaceful march from Harlem to city hall. I know because I was on the street when it happened.

In 77 the blackout started after the sun had gone down, I know it's strange but I think that's an important distinction. People found themeselves suddenly in then dark in the largest city in the world and many of them panicked, taking the crowds with them as P-kitty pointed out.

On the age thing, what really kills you is when you see that the playmate of the month was born after you graduated high school... or when your favorite song is played on the oldies station...

What About Everywhere Else?

Just in case you might not have heard (just kidding) and contrary to the news coverage, there are other major cities that are in the same situation as NYC....

wow PC, you're in your 40s? When I met you I thought you were no older then 27 or some such.

Yes, i'm "only" 20 years old. *grumble*

Actually, if PC graduated high school when you were less than one year old, and you were born in 1983, that means he graduated in 1984 (same year as I graduated). That puts us in our 30s.

By the way, I'm proud of the way Americans have handled this in general. Here in the Cleveland area, the mood was generally relaxed and calm, once everyone got out of downtown and the traffic cleared.

<--- in his low 30s :D

My neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY didnt lose power (we have our own powerplant) but I did rescue one of my players from Bensonhurst and brought him here to partake in a relaxing, and cool setting. :)

I was surprised to see so many civilian NY'ers directing traffic at trouble intersections. Kudos to us. :)
