The late star of one of the longest running children's programs received a tribute from astronomers. Visit Asteroid named for Mister Rogers for details.

Someday, when human beings move out into the Solar System in force, people may settle on that asteroid. (I don't know its size.) If so, I hope the children of the settlers will learn about the gentle man their new home was named after way back in the early years of the 21st century.

Fred Rogers was a great guy. There've been several tributes to him here attached to other performances here, it's been great. I saw local singer Francois Clemmons do a song in his honor (Clemmons had a recurring role as a police officer on the show), and just tonight, before his show, Bill Cosby had an Ave Maria sung in the honor of both Rogers and US troops in combat.

Cosby then proceded to be really, really funny.

It will probably wind up being a life-annhilating collision event asteroid. Mister Rogers wiped out all life on Earth!
