While I did not know him my ex-wife was a huge fan and I wrote him a letter and told him about her fanaticism, he wrote a letter back and sent a signed phote to her thanking her for being in teh child develpoment field... the radio played his theme song and my daughter wanted to hear it again, I am just lucky she was focusing on the song not the reprters words.

Sad day in the USA!

:(

Moment of silence, and I will put on my sweater for Mr. Rogers.

For those who don't know about Fred Rodgers, (known as "Mr. Rodgers) he was a Public Broadcast System television host of a children's television show. Instead of being the wild, fast moving kind of host that seems to be the status quo in regular network TV, Fred Rodgers was a kind gentle soul who spoke is a very quite tones. His message for preschoolers was very simple, Love yourself, and love others.

Fred Rodgers was also a Presbyterian minister, (his TV shows were secular) and a wrote books on child rearing, and spoke about his belief on such on TV shows world wide.
Through his use of puppets, and a electric toy trolly car, Mr. Rodgers was able to take children to a magical kingdom where he was friends with a King and magical subjects alike. His stories aways revolved around the life lessons that children needed.

As a child of the 70's, I feel that he will be sorely missed.

(edited to remove incorrect information on Fred Rodgers. My appologies.)

Crud. My kids are sitting here watching his show this very moment.

I don't think I'll tell them just yet ...

:( :( :(

Reading that post made me laugh. Not laugh in the happy sense of course, but ironic one. It might be an ideal time to tell them that Bob Ross isn't really around either ... (though the Joy of Painting rocked, at least as I remember it ...)

??????

There's no telling how many American kids Mr. Rogers influenced/taught over his 34 year career. He was truly a bright spot in the dark and dismal arena that is television. He will be truly missed. May the trolley to heaven be a smooth and comfortable ride.

Mr. Rodgers was also a veteran of the Korean War, where he served in the Army as a Sniper. (some what ironic, but that's the world we live in.)

This is not true. Check any internet urban-legand web-site, such as www.snopes.com ...

The John Denver "sniper" story is a typical example of the "he's not what he seems to be" legend type, tales of contradictory excess generally applied to celebrities who entertain children or otherwise have a cloying public image that show them to be the opposites of their public images. (Other examples include radio host Uncle Don and singer Mariah Carey.) Thus John Denver, known to the world as a gentle, nature-loving pop singer, is transformed into his antithesis: a professional killer. (As is Fred Rogers of television's Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. He too is rumored to have been a sniper, with even his penchant for long-sleeved cardigans ascribed to his hiding tattoos from the eyes of curious little tykes. Like Denver, Rogers never served in any branch of the military. He is an ordained minister in the United Presbyterian Church.)

You know, I still remember the day Mr. Hooper died. This is rough.

The cosmic score today: Forces of Evil:1 Forces of Good:0.
Where are the gentle souls in today's mishmash of sado-masochistic cathode-ray pap to replace a man like Fred Rogers? How and when did television transition from the quiet decency of The Neighborhood to half-naked B-level celebrities bobbing for rats in a tank of crocodiles? Or humiliating each other in sad public mating frenzies? How is it that a badly drawn cartoon based flimsily on a marketing plan to sell a billion spinning tops (!) comes to constitute acceptable children's entertainment?
Yep, it's a really sad day. I can't help but think that we wouldn't be lining up to kick the crap out of the Iraqis if we could have had ol' Fred sit down with Saddam and George. He would have patched things up between them and had them working on paper mache doves in half an hour.
Cheers, Fred. You'll be missed.

I have corrected my post, this is what I get for using my local media for information. Again. my appolgies.

It's a sad day for me. I'd like to think that I'm a better person because I watched Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood when I was little. He'll be missed(along with Bob Ross, but who knows, maybe they'll chill up in heaven and paint some happy little trees).
