[OT] Mister Rogers Dead at 74

Where are the gentle souls in today's mishmash of sado-masochistic cathode-ray pap to replace a man like Fred Rogers?

I'd like to think that the world we live in isn't that bad.

While some might call shows like "Pappyland" a pale immitation, I like to think that to a small degree that it carries on a tradition that Fred Rodgers blazed a trail for others to follow when he retired a few years back. "Pappyland" thankfully has no product placement in it, and uses alot of the same messages the Fred Rodgers used.

We still have Sesame Street, and the like.

For all the handringing I do about Children's TV, I am woefully lax on donating to PBS. I wonder if board members here in the US would be interested in donating a few dollars to thier local PBS station for children's TV?

Bob Ross! He was the 'happy happy trees' guy. He could bang out a darn good-looking nature painting in about five minutes (and only that slowly because he was talking and showing at the same time) using paint and toilet tissue.

Pappyland does not really compare to Mr. Rogers Neighborhood.

It is indeed a loss for children everywhere. The man was very good at talking to children in a matter of fact way.
