Bob Ross! He was the 'happy happy trees' guy. He could bang out a darn good-looking nature painting in about five minutes (and only that slowly because he was talking and showing at the same time) using paint and toilet tissue.
Oh...now I know who yer talkin' about.....the painting guy on Public TV. Good guy.

:( ....and yet another piece of my childhood has left. Getting old sucks.

As said above, he will be missed - but grateful that my children will be able to experience him as well.

He started his show the year I was born and right in my native state of PA. I remember once, when very young (perhaps 3 or 4), we were travelling from Philly to Ohio by car to visit my grandparents. On the highway near Pittsburgh, we pulled even with another car. My mother gestured excitedly to us (my brother & I) and pointed at the driver.

"Look kids! Do you know you that is driving that car? Mr. Rogers!"

I remember being terribly excited at seeing him and thinking "So THIS is where his neighborhood is!"

:( sigh :(

On a side note, a bit of MRN trivia: Michael Keaton got his start as an extra on the show.

I feel as though someone I knew only a little, yet cared for very much has died. Like an uncle that lived far away, but was always very kind when he came to visit.

Add Fred Rogers to the list of names of people who have touched many people's childhoods, like Jim Henson and Charles Shultz, that, in their passing, have left the world a darker place.

Its a sad day, but if even 1 person passes on what they learned from him, I think the days will be brighter.

"And thats an encouraging thought." - Gandalf

Aaron.

I agree with old Gandalf. While we will miss Fred Rodgers and other such luminaries that gave us, both as children and now as adults, laughter clean and pure as the driven rain, we still have a part of them with us forever indelible ectched into us. Because that's the kind of the people they were. So indeed have a little faith, that as black as it may seem, it's just darkest just before someone turns on the light.

Mr. Rogers brought a lot of joy and entertainment to a whole heck of a lot of kids. He led a good life. No, a Good life. Though I'm saddened by his death, my hear is warmed by the thought of all the goodness he brought into the world.
