(OT-Movie) King Conan Project

I'll share with you a superficial hope I have for King Conan- I want to see him with a beard. A grayish beard like he has at the end of the first movie. I want to see him as somewhat grizzled, worn down.

I don't know why, but the beard is very important to me for this movie.

Is this happening?

I'd rather that Arnold do the long-rumored Crusader movie with Paul Verhoven.

Ive heard there are too many problems with
getting this project off the ground?

I don't think it is happening right now. The only problems I've heard are the amount of violence, which Verhoven doesn't want to back down from, and Arnold's salary, which he doesn't want to back down from.

I think if Arnold would give up some of his salary (how much money does he need, any way?), this could get done. Verhoven could give the studio an R version for studio release, and an NC-17 Director's cut for the DVD, and everyone would be happy.

THat would R O C K !

Apart from totally digging my new Avatar and wanting to show it off (and see if anyone recognizes it) I have something to add:

With the phenomenal success of both H. Potter and LotR, every major studio is doing the same thing. They're all having meetings (which they have anyway, that's not new) and in those meetings, someone's saying; 'What do we have that's like that?'

So whoever's got the rights to every fantasy series ever is looking around to see how secure those rights are. Often, the less enthusiastic a company was about making the movie back when Fantasy was crap, the less likely the company is to have secure rights to an IP. Vivendi Universal, for instance, might have the rights to the Thomas Covenant books, for instance, because they were once MGM and maybe MGM had them. But maybe MGM sublicensed them to someone else or made a deal with a director and now Universal can't get the movie done without going and finding that director and God Knows Who Else.

It'll be interesting to see what projects formerly dying a slow death will suddenly get moved to the fast track and how many projects that get moved to the fast track suddenly derail because all the rights weren't in the right place.

Crom.
I've never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it.
No one, not even you will remember if we were good men or bad, why we fought, or how we died. No. All that matters is that two stood against many... that's what's important.
Kick ass Conan movies please you Crom... So grant us one request. Grant us one more! And if you do not listen, then the hell with you.

Don't get me wrong. I love Conan. It is one of the definative flicks. However, we all must understand that if Arnie was to be in this flick, there would have to be TONS of cash behind it. Can a quality Conan flick be made with this kind of copious fundage?

Funny thought eh?

I didn't want to edit my last post, because I feel that this is a genuine reply to myself.

Gasp.. Would they create a hi-budged Conan, to spin-off to somthing else? Kull is already hosed, so are there any options left?

I've been waiting a very long time for King Conan. Aside from the LotR trilogy, there is no other movie I'm excited for more.

It has long been my dream to see an epic Conan flick with Arnold returning to the role that made him the biggest action movie star of all time. I hope this movie gets green-lighted by the studios and gets a big budget. I hope Basil Poldouris composes the score. I hope to see grand battle scenes involving massive armies. I hope to see beautiful, scantily-clad women. I hope to see horrible monsters and evil wizards plotting against the mighty barbarian. I hope to see Conan kicking ass with all manner of weapons. I hope to hear Mako introducing the movie... "Between the years when the oceans drank Antlantis and the rise of the sons of Aryas..."

What I don't hope to see is Matrix-style slow-motion effects (Don't get me wrong, I love the Matrix, but those effects don't belong in a Conan movie), cheesy comic-relief sidekicks, or the studio editing the movie down to a PG-13 cut to make it more "family friendly."

Still, I have high hopes for this movie, because John Milius is writing it.
