But the owner, who gets his money from Dominoes does, so . . .

He's no longer the owner -- that's what the last paragraph talks about. Hasn't received a dime from Domino's in four years.

Well then, I have only one thing to say to that . . .

oh

:D

Well, I work at a local pizzeria, so I usually have to drive to get my pizza (we don't deliver).

When I do get delivery, I tip $3-4. I think the drivers know who I am now, since my pizza NEVER takes longer than 30 minutes to show up.

I'm with Morrus (surprise!). I wouldn't try and pay for delivered food by cheque (as we call them :D), because they probably wouldn't take it. It's pretty much either pay over the phone by credit or debit card, or pay cash on delivery.

And with tipping, I normally let them keep the change up to the nearest pound. As Morrus said, tipping isn't such a thing in the UK, but letting them keep the change is a simple, nice way of behaving.

Of course, if it's 20mins late or whatever, forget it. I want my 43pence change, dammit! :D

Yeah, it has to be said we have a different culture here in the UK, especially in repsect to tipping. Tipping a pizza delivery guy has never even crossed my mind to be honest.

One other handy tip I recommend to folks in the States:

if your pizza is late (or your food at a restaurant comes late or undercooked or something), point this out politely to your server and ask them with a grin whether they can give you a deal on the meal.

More often than not, they will. I once got a $16 pizza order for $5 because it showed up almost an hour late, and I've gotten all sorts of free or discounted meals by asking them to make good on a mistake they made.

If they do give you a discount, give 'em a big tip. It's not the server's fault that the food was late or wrong, but it is the server's competence that got you the discount. And you definitely want to encourage servers to give discounts like this.

And even with a big tip (tip based on the full price of the order, not on the discounted price), you'll still be getting a good deal.

(And Dragongirl, no problem -- it's what i get for being impossibly vague in an effort to avoid political discussion :) ).

If you lived in Brest and saw th eguy arrive completly soaked in the middle of an epic storm, maybe you would change your mind...

It seems that as a rough rule of thumb, if you are in a country where this form of payment is spelled "cheque", you generally cannot use it to pay for delivery pizza. If you are in a country where it is spelled "check", you generally can use one to pay for delivery pizza.
