Hey all. Was doing some reading of the various webs and found this...

http://www.dvdoriginal.com/dvd/showdetail.asp?pid=1235

According to this it is for sale and available immediately...Maybe I missed something, but I have not heard ANYTHING about these films actually hitting DVD.

I checked reel.com and Amazon.com and deepdiscountdvd.com and none of them have them even noted as in production.

That's what it looked like to me too...

Boy, these guys are set up with either the biggest set of nickle-plated balls on earth, or the smallest amount of brains to put up a friggan webpage and try selling them online!

Or both.

It's basically the laserdisk formatted to DVD. Weirdly, they're all encoded with DTS but only New Hope actually has it where the DTS is in sync with the visuals. The Dolby track is perfect though.

There's nothing in addition to the movie though other than an ad for the Special Edition.

Of course, I would have a lot more sympathy if Lucas wasn't being so infernaly stupid regarding releasing legit versions...

Nail. Head.

Lucas seems to go out of his way to antagonize his long-time fans to the point where they are no longer fans. He knows he can make a bloody fortune releasing Eps 4-6 on DVD but since he already has a bloody fortune he just can't bothered.

Lucas can eat a bag of hell and wash it down with dog urine.

All IMHO of course ;)

Or he's just too busy making new movies that are eating up all his time and he cares so much for the original films that he wants to dedicate the time and energy to doing the DVD's right.

*laughs dryly*

Sorry, not buying it. It wouldn't take any real time out his shedule to do the DVDs... All he has to do is pop in every once and a while and say "Hmmm... No, change that menu interface...", and such. It's not like he's encoding them himself. And considering the number of absolutly top quality DVDs that have come out 6 months after the movie was in theaters, I know it doesn't take that long to do even a smash-up job of it.

Besides, after Episode 1 and 2, I'm honestly not giving lucas the benefit of the doubt that he really cares that much for the old Star Wars anymore. Sorry if I come across as really cynical... but I am.

Yes, but Lucas is a control freak. And since the start of production on The Phantom Menace he has been working on not only the current film he is shooting but the DVD for that film at the same time. He involves himself in every aspect of each film which I'm sure eats up a ton of his time. And those DVDs that come out about 6 months after their theater release typically don't have 2 discs and they usually have squat for extras so that explaination doesn't fly too well.

I'm not going to get into it again here but you obviously have a very strong opinion about Lucas/Star Wars so there is no use in me trying to convince you otherwise.

I've never minded waiting for things. This is just another thing to wait for. And if it takes him some time to do it the way he wants to do it, so be it. Lucas is not out to get anyone. We'll eventually get our DVDs. Heck, I may even pick these up just to bide my time. I'll give em to a family member when I buy the official stuff.

It takes too much effort for me to be jaded these days... ;)
