[OT- Star Wars, possible spoilers] Was Darth Vader truly evil?

First Post
What did Darth Vader *do* that was evil.

He didn't order the destruction of Alderaan; that was the admiral trying to demonstrate the power of the Death Star.

He choked a few Imperial Navy officers to death, but those weren't nice people.

He "tortured" Princess Leia, but oddly she revealed nothing of import. Perhaps he only pretended to have her tortured and revealed what he already knew to the Admiral to preserve her life.

Sure, Darth Vader threatens people a lot, and he has a horrible reputation, but what does he *actually* do that is evil?

I've recently rewatched Episode 4, and am slowly working through Episode 5 and 6. So far, I've only seen Vader do a few things which were passively evil...

... which brings me to my theory.

What if Darth Vader had turned to the darkside, then later recanted, but had no Jedi left alive to support his return to the light. Perhaps he actually HAD brought balance to the Force and was looking for a way to redeem himself by destroying the Emperor, but needed to wait until a suitable candidate to help back him up had arisen.

Maybe I should say troll but until I see the movie I will not make judgement but

He killed (dracoian but still no reason other than he was pissed)
He supported a dark empire that repressed the right of different races.
He disregarded said peoples right for information, Leia was never before judge and Vader knew he was not going to get answers, he did it for fun.
He wore a black cape. Always a sign of evil.:)

Gee it not like he overrule some of admirals and told them what to do.

"He choked a few Imperial Navy officers to death, but those weren't nice people.""
So if I kill people on my side it okay because they deserved killing.

"He "tortured" Princess Leia, but oddly she revealed nothing of import. Perhaps he only pretended to have her tortured and revealed what he already knew to the Admiral to preserve her life."
No really the torture was force her to wear her hair in the honeybun. After this it destroy her ablility to act.
I know he pretended to go get coffee in this scene.

"Sure, Darth Vader threatens people a lot, and he has a horrible reputation, but what does he *actually* do that is evil?""

gee Han solo I did mean to turn you into an ice cube to see if my new fridradare work sorry.

Gee I didn't order all those bounty hunters after the rebels I just want them to spray paint the falcon with vader rules.

Sorry about blow brigs and whats his names to atoms.

". Perhaps he actually HAD brought balance to the Force ..."

Yeah if you wipe out everyone or make them noncombatives. You do balance when 1 bad guy vs 1 good guy.

Oh sorry about the hand son.

And he also sent StormTroopers onto Tantooine who killed Luke's Aunt and Uncle.

Also if I stay with your logic Hitler wasn't evil, He never really did anything bad himself. He had others do it for him under his orders.

Well I think I have just taken a bit out of this troll. Sorry

"They never even asked me any questions..."

Vader's single action that has stood out in my mind as truly evil is the method he uses to lure Luke to him...

He tortures Han Solo. No questions... No purpose... Except to inflict upon him so much pain that Luke cannot help but to come save his friends.

And all that, when he knows that Luke is his son.
