[OT] What is the most "wasted" money spent on a gaming item.

*This is not a slamming thread, more of a "I can't believe I bought that" kinda thread.

I will start, I bought a d20 meteorite die at GenCon last year for $100, have I used it--nope, have I almost lost it--yup. Do I regret it, nope but it was a waste.
More importantly if they have a new limited die will I get a match for this year, sucker that I am, I am sure the answer is yes.

OK, your turn.

Paid $500 for the Orange Cover version of B3. even though, i got the free download from the WotC site.

have i had a chance to play it. no. will i? probably never. stupid non interesting gamin community:mad:

I bought the faux-leather bound Encyclopedia Magica set that TSR released back in late 1996, back in The Last Days. I have used it all of Twice in the past four years, though I got a good bit of use out of it when I first bought it back in 1998. I spent $110.00 on it (USD), when it was $25 a volume, plus tax. I don't regret it, because they look beautiful, and should I ever play old AD&D again, they are great. But I rarely use it anymore, because of the wealth of items that can be created in 3E just by using the DMG.

It wasn't one item, but it was all one purchase. A gaming/comic book store was having a moving sale. I must have bought over $100 worth of old Chaosium Press Cthulhu books. I love CoC (d20 or BRP), but I almost never get to GM/play it because my group isn't into it.

I sooooo wanted that dice, but I looked at my wife and I knew the answer even before I spoke. :-)

Probably CC2-Pro. I haven't used it all that much since I got it, I really like it though, $200...

I bought the Epic Level Handbook, even though I've never played a high-level game. In my defense, it was almost half the list price.

Same here, Shouit - CC2. I got it at GenCon, and was over $100. Never used it. What a waste of money that was. To top it off, my friend lost the disks to it.

And I bought some of those hematite dice - the really small ones. Their cool (both metaphorically and literally) and all, but I don't like using them because they don't roll really well. They were $35.

MERP -- I knew going into it that I would never want to play it, but I couldn't help but have it in my collection. :) I've never bought one of those big ticket "collector's items" gaming products, though. Only I would pick up those silver plated dice sets sometime, and those are a good $70-80 bucks.

The latest Shadowrun "Grimoire".

Nice book. I really like it. I really like Shadowrun.

Unfortunately, my wife just doesn't "get" cyberpunk. It took me five+ years of cajoling her just to try it and a fair amount of effort to convince some others, too. I bought the book knowing that the primarily D&D group would want to see spells and the like.

An "interpersonal" problem that occurred during the first session killed the campaign and pretty much cinched that no one involved with the game will ever try it again.
