[OT] What is the most "wasted" money spent on a gaming item.

Mystic Races from Fantasy Flight Games. I still think it is a great book (though some of the races are4 a bit broken, there's lots that are not), but I've never used the thing. Ever. :(

Either that or I bought the first 4 Forgotten Realms books/expansions for 3E. I don't believe I've used them since I left LivingWeb over a year ago...

MERP -- I knew going into it that I would never want to play it, but I couldn't help but have it in my collection. :) I've never bought one of those big ticket "collector's items" gaming products, though. Only I would pick up those silver plated dice sets sometime, and those are a good $70-80 bucks.

I don't know if this constitutes a waste of money - have you seen what MERP products are going for on eBay?

If I may address anothers' comment (or I could just pump up my post count) those meteoric dice looked so cool - and also such of waste of material that could be studied. Both of those reactions are from my background in astronomy. If I had had the chance, those dice would have overpowered the "but my wife will kill me" reflex. Ah well, maybe I'll get her one of those sets of amethyst dice, someday.

My biggest mistake was buying WarZone. I was interested in trying out a miniature wargame, and it was all the rage at my FLGS at the time. I dropped $150 on the basic game, a bunch of miniatures, and a couple vehicles. Got them home, painted up a small squad of soldiers, and found the vehicles to be almost unassembleable. Played 3 times, the vehicles are still unassembled, and the store stopped selling the game about 2 months later when all the wargamers decide that it was over and they went back to Warhammer. Never again will I buy another miniature wargame. (But I'll keep buying them for D&D)

Ok this is one of the funniest/most disgusting things I have heard in a long time.

Of course they will be available at booth 1245 at GenCon (MEG), we will also have the $650.00 one for people under 21 that is filled with cream cheese.

I can't pass judgement about whether that was a waste until I know what kind of beer...

One year, for Christmas, several friends collaborating together got me the first 3 books to the Encyclopedia Magica. Gah! The first 3 books to a set I didn't want! I felt obligated to buy the fourth one. What a useless set of books. Never, ever used them. Still have them. Anybody wanna gimme something for em?

The box set of that Forgotten Realms super-dungeon city thing who's name completely fails me at this point. Never used it, didn't like it, been mostly crushed in a shelf.

Might check in the closet and see if there's anything worth salvaging in it. It wasn't what I was looking for, regardless of how good it might actually have been.

Biggest waste of money on a gaming item?

Three words:

Epic Level Handbook.

I was greatly disappointed by that book. And it costed a lot, too. Luckily, I sold to a friend of mine who thought it was fairly interesting. I should mention that didn't think the book was a complete waste. The city detailed in the back of the book was really done quite good, but that didn't make up for the cost of the book.

That's just my personal opinion, though. I hope there are no hard feelings.

Cheers!
