[OT] Who are YOU and what do you DO?

Well, I may as well jump on this thread as well :) I think my life's a little unusual, so it's probably worth telling. I'm a 20 year old male with one year left on my undergraduate degree of math and physics (w/ minors in religion and computer science) at Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, OH.

Right now, I'm in Redmond WA working for Microsoft on an internship. I got married two months ago to a beautiful girl who I'd been dating for 3.5 years. I hope to come back to MS and work full time next year and at some point in the future get a PhD in math and then teach at a university. Also, I want to write fantasy books but that's really more of a dream and a hobby then an expectation :)

I like to read, write and code in my spare time. Hobbies include playing soccer and archery. I'm an officer in my school's archery club and love my bow :) I began gaming in elementary school when my dad taught me Battletech (I know it's not roleplaying, but I still consider it gaming). I picked up D&D when I was around 11, if I remember correctly. I like goldfish crackers, don't care much for most types of potatoes and I'm a comitted Christian.

That pretty much sums me up, I guess. :)

Lessee...

30 years old white guy. Balding, so my hair is as short as my wife will let me wear it -- I'd shave it, but she says I look too intimidating. About 6'0". Weight charts say I'm about 60# overweight, but I have a flat stomach and sink like a rock in water.

Grew up in rural Iowa (the rolling Loess Hills) where my nearest neighbor lived on the horizon. Reasonably skilled with firearms of all sorts, although it's never been a big passion of mine.

Now live in Cedar Rapids, IA. Married for 8 years, as of today. Two daughters, 3 years and 3 months. Planning on more, 'cause kids are great.

Studied Chemical Engineering in college for a couple of years, but I just didn't enjoy it much. Ended up getting a degree in Political Science with a minor in Philosophy. Would have had a minor in History, too, but I didn't realize I was only one class short until my final semester. Upon graduating, I immediately started programming computers and am currently self-employed, doing contract work.

Games I play: Mostly 3E, but also HERO and World of Darkness. I enjoy Shadowrun, but my current group is indifferent at best. I also like Aria, but it entails a lot of work that I just don't have right now. I've run through several other games (Paranoia, Aftermath, Cyberpunk 2020, etc. ) and a "flavor of the week", but none stuck long term.

Interests other than RPGs include:

-Politics -- I sat on my party's platform committee in 2000 (and probably will again in 2004) and have flirted on and off with a run for office for years.

-Religion -- I'm an active Lutheran.

-Vampires -- my 10th grade English term paper was to compare and contrast traditional (European) folklore vampires to modern fiction and movies, and it hasn't gotten any better.

-Movies, books, and TV -- I actually only watch about 4 hrs of TV a week, but I watch pretty intently for those 4 hrs. I like Buffy (go figure), Angel (of course), Smallville, Robert Jorden, George Martin, etc.

-Martial Arts -- especially Hap Ki Do. Unfortunately, I can't find a Hap Ki Do dojang in Cedar Rapids.

Ok, here goes

33, married for 3 years, 1 child with another due in October, 3 cats. Run my own Software company which takes most of my time. Saving up to get the garage moved so the back garden is twice as big as it is currently.

Being a gamer since 1983, mostly D&D but with some SW, WFRP, and others occasionally. Pretty much DM all the time but when I do play I tend to play nasty characters that tend to leave the other party members for dead :D hence the fact I tend to DM. Loved all versions of D&D but think the latest is pretty cool in terms of options but not the fact that I have to be a lot more precise now.

Great Thread Idea !

Helo All,

I am a 33 year old Hispanic Male (didn't even know what Hispanic meant till I lived in the USA) who was born in the USA but spent most of my life growing up in the UK. I recently spent some time working in the USA, Orlando, FL to be exact, for about 5 years, but have been back in the UK for just over a year now. I went to College in the UK and studied for an HND(close to a degree) in Hospitallity Management but never really used it to get a job. I am way too self critical and need to give my self a break sometimes. I am single and looking for a girlfriend to settle down but find it difficult due to low self esteem at the moment. I am currently in a Sales Job working for a Hotel, which I don't like but I'm thinking of going into another office vocation in the near future. While I enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of North Wales, I do miss the fast pace and 24 hour convenience of a big city, so my next job will be in a city, hopefully ? I have spent some time travelling around Europe and lived in Italy for nearly a year when I was a lot younger. I did not get a chance to travel around the USA, which I regret, as I was always working and could never get enough time off. I would have loved to have seen the Pacific North West and visit my Birth Town of New York. I enjoy movies, reading Sci-Fi and Fantasy Novells, my favorite authors are David Gemmell and Raymond E. Fiest, computer gaming(console-XBox and PC), paintballing and cooking, but by far my favorite past time is to Play Roleplaying Games, preferably DnD(been playing about 19 years now) but if I can't then any other will suffice. I have played Werewolf Apocolypse and Vampire Masquarade and thought they were brilliant. I also enjoyed playing Warhammer Fantasy RolePlay, Judge Dredd and Paranoia ! but DnD is still the best IMHO. I would like to play more than my current groups once a week for 3.5 hours but beggers can't be choosers. Bye for now....Zal.:)

Birth cerificate says I'm 29, so I guess I'll say I'm 29 too. Born in Ottawa, Canada, but suffered a severe case of Air Force Brattiness and llived in a lot of places - Colorado was nice, Winnipeg wasn't.

Currently live on a little sandbar in the Atlantic called Prince Edward Island. For those of you unfamiliar with it, I suppse I merely have to say "Anne of Green Gables" for recognition to dawn. Although I prefer the lobster to the fiction.

I work at which is, thus far from what I've read, the most demeanal job on the face of the planet - phone-in internet tech support. 9 hours a day talking to people who don't know the difference between click, right-click, and double-click. I used to think all those 'urban legends' about stupid tech supprot calls were just that, urban legends. Boy how wrong I was.

I'd kill right now to get into the field of Marine Biology (or zoology), but at 29 with quite a bit of debt, doesn't look like that'll happen - unless someone here wants to hire a guy with a lot of heart but no real experience. Relocation is not an issue, as long as the green card comes with it. Ok, I said my, plea, now can say 'at least I tried' :)

Interests would be the family (wife and son of 3 years, about 2 months apart on respective dates to remember), used to be a video game addict but I kicked that. Want to get more into aquariums but I need to own a house first. Hoping for that in a couple of years.

I'm a 31 year old male, born in Puerto Rico, though I have been living in the US for 21 years. I'm a graphic designer for NASA at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville Alabama. Oh... and a slacker-DM on the side ;).

Well, then you need to come out this way, baby, 'cuz you ain't the only Atomic Dog in town. :D

I'm nearly 35, married for almost 9 years to the incomparable Valanthe the Sleepless, and the proud father of two geeks-in-training aged 3 and 6. Like many, we experienced a long dark teatime of the soul, but karmic payback hit big, and 2K3 has been a great year. I work as a network administrator for a financial firm, continuing my lifelong love of computers and geekery.

I love games in all shapes and sizes. I've been a D&D player for over 23 years, starting when I was 11, when I saved up my allowance for several weeks to get the red box set. I love music, and I love anime, since I discovered it back when I was 9. I can talk your ear off. I never have enough time to do all the things I want, and tend to flit like a butterfly to whatever interest pulls me at any given moment. I tend to improvise things a lot, which makes it handy that I have a good imagination.

I'm lucky to have no shortage of players, only a shortage of time.

I...am...not...ALONE!

All together now:

Starchild here, citizens of the universe
Gettin' it on, partying on the Mothership.
When Gabriel's horn blows, you'd better be ready to go.

Swing low
Time to move on
Light years in time
Ahead of our time
Free your mind, and come fly
With me
It's hip
On the Mothership
Groovin'

Swing down, sweet chariot
Stop, and let me ride

:D

The Curse of....The Double Post

Ahem. Well, as long as I did, here's the Dramatics:

Some people are made of plastic
And you know some people are made of wood
Some people have hearts of stone
Some people are up to no good
But baby I'm for real
I'm as real as real can get
If what you're looking for is real loving
Then what you see is what you get

What you see is what you get
What you see is what you get
I said what you see is what you get now baby
And the real thing is the best thing yet
You know some people
Are made of lies to bring you down
And shame your name
But baby, I have good intentions
Cause breaking hearts just ain't my game
All I want to do is love you
And sugar I won't pin you with regret
If what you're looking for is real loving
Then what you see is what you get

I'm 31 going on 32 this year. I've been playing D&D in one form or another since grade school and other role playing games once I hit high school.

I work at Federal Mogul, it's a factory in Skokie that makes, packs and distributs gaskets. I work on fixing user issues and helping to come out with new ideas, project anlaysis, system issues and other trouble shooting. I help write the manuals, test the systems and put together Access databases for various duties.

I enjoy graphic design but don't do it professionaly because then it would take too much work. I'm there to play with Quark! I love miniatures, the great details and crispness of the newer ones have really been great, a whole new era in the hobby I think.

I tend to stick with a standard 20 fantasy game using 3.5 as my new core rules with lots of other material thrown on top of it.
