[OT] WotC loses Pokemon license

Meowth will still be watching...

The big hurt comes from the timing with the upcoming release of the GemStone PokeMon carts (and consequential new Season ramp up promotion blitz) which look like they'll do fairly well and give the genre a short term boost. Although, Yu-Gi-Oh has long since trumped the current TCG market. It still is a hit. And a significant one.

Card games like this are past their heyday.

Who cares.

I think WOTC might care about the roughly forty million a year in income Pokemon still brings in...

Hint:D&D doesn't make nearly that much.

huh.

except for what this may do in the loooong run at Hasbro (WOTC) this dosen't surprise or matter much to me. I realise the game has some 10+ year olds in it but I always thought of it as a kid's game and only as such. Marketing I guess.

As far as the "Real" bit- yeah- restate that though I understand what you're getting at.

Now....what will be the next craze that all 10 or less year olds will demand of their folks?????

expected

I expected this to happen. The game does make a lot of money, but all I hear is anymore is Yu-Gi-Oh.

With two movies out and the books, you'd imagine the Harry Potter CCG would be doing better. Hmm...

Personally the only CCG I've ever played was Magic and I quit back before Homelands was released.

That is extremely rude and very insulting. I have played the Decipher Star Wars CCG since its release way back in '95, and CONTINUE to play to this day, despite the fact that WotC has the license. Why? Because it is a good game. I have DMed and played in RPGs for even longer, but since I play a CCG, you're better than me? I'm sorry, but that is just something I can't stand to see. Arrogance is not a good thing.

I'm thinking he was referring more to the people who play Pokemon, and not just them, but a specific subset(they are now also involved in Yugioh). You've probably seen them: Grown men, over the age of 30 or 40, going into gaming shops, trading cards with 11 and 12 year olds, whupping it up in tournaments. on 12 year olds. It's sad to watch.

Plus, he's more than a little bit bitter about the fact that we used to get kicked off of tables that we had been using(and paying for use of) for these guys.

That is not possible. I am not in your employ, therefor you cannot sack me! HA! :D

by the way, this ghostwalker figure.........
