D&D (2024) Pact Of Chain Warlock is really powerful now.

So I did not realize how much more powerful Chain Warlock is.

The new buffed familiars are a lot more durable and since it is only an action to cast the spell again they are generally expendable (role playing aside).

In 2014 Sprite was the only really effective combat familiar, and only because you could attack from range and avoid being attacked.

The new familiars are much better, especially Imp and Quasit. At 1st level these are going to be far more durable than your PC and will generally have better attacks too. A 1st level Warlock the normal play might just be forgo his own attacks to let his Imp or Quasit attack.

The Pseudodragon is still pretty weak in terms of hps, but they have Blindsight and with Investment of the Chain Master an ability to knock foes unconscious regularly. I played a 2014 multiclass Warlock with a PD familiar up to level 20 and I did use him in combat, but it was highly situational because I did not want him dying. Now I think you just plan on him dying every fight, send him into the fray like you would with a spiritual weapon and recast FF at the end of it.

Yeah they are much stronger now, especially at low level, but not a s OP as I believed:

So...I know that abbreviations are useful and all...

But wouldn't it be a lot more clear to use "Chain Warlock" rather than "POC"? Because, y'know, there's a MUCH more well-known and widely-used meaning of "POC" that is going to confuse a lot of people.

And by a lot of people I mean I, personally, was deeply confused and kind of worried about the title until I thought through it for a minute.

It’s why avoid “build” threads. I have no idea what anyone is talking about because everyone speaks in abbreviations.

Yes. There were quite a few people who looked at it during the playtest and were shouted down by a flood of people who needed to wait for wotc to publish it. Unfortunately it was not ≥31% who recognized it so we got what was published instead.

I think you can do a warlock with Pact of the Chain that's still pretty focused on Eldritch Blast.

Or as I like to call it, a Blast Intensive Pact Of the Chain warlock.

Be sure to enforce the 10gp/use material component cost. It may not seem like much, but it helps prevent the spam-cast approach to using the familiar at the lower levels. It's definitely powerful at first level, but becomes less so over time.
