D&D 4E Paizo and 4e.

I wonder if it would be somehow possible for Paizo to, with their proposed 3rd Pathfinder series, somehow incorporate the transition of the D&D ruleset from 3.5 to 4 as part of the story itself.

Cheers,
Vurt

You mean like this?

Sort of, but presumably more towards the middle or even near the end of the story arc. Maybe give the players the opportunity to redo their characters via some world-changing event that they themselves somehow trigger. OOTS essentially gave us a fait accomplis. I think it would be more interesting to play through it, ala adventuring in the Forgotten Realms' Time of Troubles instead of after.

...but then again, maybe there isn't. People never ended up getting too many adventures, really. And I suspect that a LARGE number of our customers won't ever run the AP anyway; they just read the adventures for entertainment.

I bought both the SCAP and the first issue of Pathfinder (Gencon exclusive version, autographed by Erik Mona, and I don't have any particular plans on running either one. I buy good books, and Paizo makes good books. I do run a lot of games, and good adventures can alway provide inspiration even if I don't use them. I can also lend them to folks who are likely to run them for me... like I just did with Ptolus...

On way or the other, I do not anticipate any major "story changes" in our campaign world because of the shift in rules. No matter what system we are using we will try to publish a setting that is true to the pulp fantasy roots of D&D, which is a surprisingly bendy set of influences.

If the 4e PH lacks a bard we will either avoid stories with bards until WotC gives us one or make one of our own that will suffice in the interregnum.

Of all the things that concern me about 4e, this is not one of them.

Actually, I'm not that concerned about 4e, and I'm really looking forward to it. A lot of the "sacred cows" issues have to do with elements of the game that have not traditionally been open and are unlikely to be open in the new edition.

I was initially bent out of shape about the changes to the Great Wheel and to the succubi, but Paizo can't really use the Great Wheel one way or the other, and we can easily include a "traditional" succubus in our stuff if we want to.

So I am not worried about the impact the 4e rules will have on our setting.

A silver lining to the timing of the 4e release is that Golarion is still a young world and hasn't had a chance to accumulate alot of "stuff" (for the lack of a better term) that will be invalidated by the rules changes.

More to the point, what "stuff" we have accumlated won't be changing just because the game's edition changes.

Emphasis mine.

See, Erik, that's precisely the type of thing, "wait until WotC gives us one" and then use it, that I personally, as a customer, hope you'll keep to a bare minimum, or rather not do, if you switch Pathfinder to 4E.

I'll be buying 4E, but I have no intention in the world to buy a PHB a month, take a subscription to DDI and so on. I'll keep up with Pathfinder because that's the stuff I want to support with my cash. So I don't want Pathfinder to refer me to "PHB4" or "WotC supplement X" or "DI article Y".

Going the route of a "4E Pathfinder Unearthed" would avoid that, for me.

Maybe that's not what you meant, I don't know. I'm just taking the opportunity to give my opinion on that.
