Paladins

Well . . . the last character I played was a way, way, WAY overzealous human paladin/templar of Correlan, who had been kicked out of his temple for trying to force too much of a routine on the place, and was wandering around defending things. He did a damn good job of it too, prepared a town against an or raid. Had them cut back the treeline to 400 yards away from the town, and use the timber as a row of sharpened stakes pointing outward, to foil charges. The party had gotten about 20 archers and 20 pikemen trained by the time the raids started. When they did come, we had the party's wizard cast fireballs down onto the orcs, and the 20-ish archers unleashed hell from the walls. The stakes prevented the orcs from getting a siege tower up close, and made running and charging impossable. The orcs were beaten back with ease.

Then came the halflings.

Paladins are cool

But Crusaders are better.

If they were still around, anyway.

Hong "is that an Integral Midwall Cooled 155mm howitzer in your turret, or are you just glad to see me?" Ooi

Last game I was in there was a Paladin. There was also an PC who had specifically written into her story that she liked Paladins.

Her: I dig paladins.
Me: I dig paladins...
[she walks away]
Me: Shallow graves MUAHAHAHAH!!!

The rest of the party looked at me funny *sob*... but that's what I get for being TN in a totally LG/NG party. Silly good people just can't take a joke :) (Though, as a sneak-attacking rogue, they were never too sure of me either).

Paladins are fun to use with good PCs who aren't 100% good. I have the Paladins recognize the goodness in the PCs so they don't try to kill them, just bring them all the way to the side of good.

That's exactly what I plan on doing with a paladin next session. They've been acting particularly nonheroic lately and I want to make them choose up sides.

He's a 2nd level half silver dragon paladin... lots of fun.

I recognize the M109A6, but what is that Crusader thingie?

Is it based on a Challenger chassis or a Warrior one? The number of wheels seems to suggest a challenger was the basis, but the shape of the base structure seems rather similar to the Warrior...intriguing vehicle nonetheless...

Crusader was the US Army's planned replacement for Paladin, until its cancellation earlier this year.

Generally even when I'm playing a different class I end up playing a "paladin" of sorts. Argh . . . I am a stereotype of myself!

When I try to play an extreme opposite I end up with a "black knight" character. For some reason I can swing from Lawful good to Lawful neutral (rarely Lawful evil) for different characters but playing the other alignments is next to impossible for me to sustain for more than one session . . .

My current PC is a Half-Orc fighter of Helm (I think that's who it is. We're playing forgotten realms and at first I thought we were just using the standard campaign setting so I had him worship Heironeous, like every good vanilla-paladin wannabe should) who's desperate to break free from his chaotic nature so that he can answer the call to become a paladin. (Can you say angst-riddled cliche? ;) )
