Paragon Path names revealed by Jonathan Tweet!

Iron Vanguard

I wonder if there will be any thematic connection between the Iron Vanguard path and the new Iron dragons, simular to how Warlords can have the Iron Dragon Charge daily power. and if there is such a corrilation, I wonder if the other paths are metalic dragon related, or maybe just tied to fantastic creatures, or no overarcing themes per say. I can see a Silver Interceptor or Scion of Frost (Frost Giant emulation) or maybe just Sod-brained Damageshield. =D

...and here we have another example of "why haven't they hired Klaus over at WotC yet?" I mean you can come up with decent names, and I'll bet have some great art of sample characters following those paths as well.

Thank you, sir! :D

BC: "Iron Vanguard your motivation is running low, shall I pin your opponent?"
IV: "Yes, Battle Captain, pin them now so they will not move and thus you will grant me a bonus to attack. Spellstorm Mage , what do you plan to do?"
SsM: "I shall shoot them with my 11th level spell of flaming wrath then I will shift behind Astral Weapon."
AW: "By the powers of love, beauty, strength and justice! I shall Heal the Iron Vanguard's motivation to fight by granting him a healing surge! You do not have to fear being brought down to negative hit points this round, for evil shall not prevail!"

My god... 4e is becoming anime....

What anime in particular? 4e is becoming something, but its not anime. I could only wish that 4e was more like record of lodoss war and berserk.

I like most of them well enough. They seem to be easily changed, given the fluffy nature.

However, I have to agree that Battle Archer is quite weak. Not really impressive at all.

Meh, names don't bother me one way or the other. I almost never use the names from the books, especially not class names.

I've got a PC I play both in face to face play and also online. He typically introduces himself as follows:

"I am Rionus el'Aundair, a swordsman. I am a squire in the Knights Arcane, and hope to someday join the Order of the Knights Phantom."

Online, he has several times been referred to as "the Paladin." (Mechanically speaking, he's a 2nd level Paladin.)

In face to face play, they just call him "Smite." Pointing out that he has 4 levels of Paladin, 6 of Sorceror, and 3 of Knight Phantom doesn't disuade them in the slightest. They claim that even 1 level of Paladin "taints" the whole character to the point that the nickname is apropriate.

So while I agree that I prefer not to use class names, I have to say I'm at a loss as to how to get other people to stop. ;)

Well, Order of the Bow Initiate was a PrC published by WotC, so don't give him too much credit there.
Well, that's part of the thing: you look at what was done before and use what you can. So I thought "what was THE archer PrClass in 3.x?", and the OotBI came up.

As for Weapon of Divinity, I thought about naming it "Fist of God", but I'd rather save that for a monk... :D

I know. Totally beats that 3.X play. The names are a lot shorter.

DM: The shadow demon begins to laugh as he calls upon his his spectral panthers to attack.

R/F/IB: "Hey, Fighter/Battle Sorcerer/Spellsword/Abjurant Champion/Eldritch Knight, I can't feint him, he's far too skilled, could you flank him so I can get my sneak attack damage?"
FBSSACEK: "Sure thing. I'll move behind him to distract him, Rogue/Fighter/Invisible Blade. It'll make it easier for me to hit him too. I'm thinking I'll hit him with a Channeled Vampiric Touch to heal up, too. What're you planning Wizard/Incantrix/Archmage?"

Etc, etc. ^_~

Anyhow. Mmm. Names are okay. All kind of mediocre. Am really curious to see how the Paragon Paths actually work though, rather than just the names.

Well, I usually either rename the classes (if say they are of a particular order, training, guild, etc. Or simply match how one would be called in this setting) and just if they have to use a "class-name" in-game we use those, out-of-game doesn't really matter to me, if one of my players go...

"Your paladin has a level 6 smite ready, right?"

I won't get annoyed that it was renamed... Say... Inquisitor in the setting, for example.

Just depends I guess on who you play with and how well they remember in-game/campaign specific stuff.

... I really like your names. But Order of the Bow initiate was not what what you used if you wanted to make an awesome archer. Peerless Archer, Deepwood Sniper ... those, absolutely. The name is great. But the class, especially in 3.5, was not.

But that's off topic. On topic, I'm looking forward to some more sneak peeks at paragon paths. Especially the assassin. It's just such a fantasy classic, from Vlad Taltos, to Robin Hobb's Apprentice Adept, Artemis Entreri :o , etc. I'm sure it's in there. I just want to see what the 4e take on it is. :P

Speculation- this is what defines the tiers.

At level 1, you get abilities based on your class. From that point on, you don't. You get powers instead, from your class' power list, and according to a (nearly) universal progression. At level 20, many of your powers automatically upgrade (see Thief examples). At level 10, you get a new shot of class abilities based on your Paragon Path.
