Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder's Goblins

Hi everyone! First off... thanks for all the support and kind words. Really made my day. :)

ANYway... while the goblins are a pretty extreme example of how Pathfinder is going to be reimagining monsters, it's also pretty spot on with what we'll be trying to do. Some monsters you can't do much with, but when we can, we'll be casting the monsters that appear in Pathfinder in a new light to give our products and our campaign setting and our Adventure Paths a flavor of their own.

As for the "Top Ten Facts about Goblins" and the "Goblin Song," those bits of text were pretty much taken right out of the first adventure, "Burnt Offerings," so it's actually a pretty good example of the types of flavor we'll be including.

And fears that these goblins might be TOO cute are unfounded. They're absolutely going to be monsters that players are going to want to fight by the time "Burnt Offerings" sends them up to their creepy little lair north of the town of Sandpoint. Cannibalism's not a bad idea; they DO like their six lunches a day, those goblins!

Anyway... stay tuned to the blog for more details about Pathfinder. I think the next one's scheduled to go live at 3:00 this afternoon, but I'm not sure.

Looking forward to the next installment of the blog. I'm putting in my subscription soon.

One question - the first "issue" will have an adventure about goblins... but what's the "side" content? Is it going to be a few feats, monsters, and that jazz? I'm just curious to see how much of the issue is adventure content, and how much is peripheral content. I'd love to see a table of contents, even.

Pathfinder 1 will also have a pretty large backdrop-style article about Sandpoint, the first Pathfinder Journal (an "in game" gazetteer-style recurring column; this one will introduce the Pathfinder organization and is written by Erik Mona), and a history of the ancient empire of Thassilon (the place where Runelords' BBEG comes from; this one's written by Wolfgang Baur). Plus six new monsters and a short summary of the entire adventure path so GMs can see where we're going.

There'll probably be a few other tidbits here and there (not sure how big the "Here's info about goblins!" section will be, for example... it'll probably be an appendix to the adventure), but at this point, that's looking like what's going into Pathfinder #1.

Obviously I'm alone here but.....
God that sucks.

I really like the ideas presented in the text. But the picture looks completely childish.

(I do like the ghouls.... Classic WAR there)

I Agree. It looks like the bastard son of Warhammer and anime. (Or, in place of anime, WoW.)

They just dont seem to fit with the otherwise gritty feel of most d20 settings.

I love 'em, from what I've seen in the preview. Good design (I think that goes without saying), interesting quirks, all the rest. And they have a theme song.

Hey, I like those goblins. Goblins are, after all, lowly creatures in the big picture. Compare them to critters like devils or demons or dragons.

They should not be as physically imposing. The vaguely cute look fits. It will make the characters go "aaawwww" - until they have some goblin swords sticking in them. Silly turns to horrific. Sick and twisted, just like goblins ought to be.

That song made my signature, and I'm looking into total cost for a Pathfinder subscription, including shipping options to Germany, right now. That goblin part almost sold me on pathfinder!

Gotta admit, I was and am less than impressed by the visual reimagination of the goblins. Especially because it's not even especially original (look at rackham goblins, who are damn close).

But the flavor-damn that's great.

Writing is stealing words out of your head and we steal your thought by drawing you. The mean ugly songs- heck, I can imagine myself singing evil little songs at the gaming table in a silly voice-and my players actually getting the fear on about that.

I never knew what exactly to do with goblins to differenciate them- but this is perfect- they are mean, they are vile, they are supersticious and silly- but damn, that doesn't mean they are stupid or foolish.

It's almost like an army of Belkars, just worse.
