PbP Ars Magica- Recruiting [Closed] - covenant/character design on the go!

What I like about the Priory is that for the period and location it would be a significant motivator. it brings with it allies (the Priory and pagan religions- particularly femal divinity based ones) and enemies (the Church in general, the Inquisition), and issues with the order making the reason the covenant is watched (why is the covenant in contact with so many non-order people, why does the church seem to be taking an interest in the region, even beyond the normal heretic and witch hunts etc)

It is quite easy to translate this into a spring covenant also. What binds this group of magi together? Their membership of the Priory of Sion. No senior members of the Priory are present (at least to your knowledge), but occasional requests for aid, information and warnings come through (including people travelling/packages to be passed on, people to be hidden etc).

This is just anidea- but I like the idea of a historical secret society due to the abundance of information on it and being able to tie it in to the history of the region relatively easily.

Poll is up!

Ok, the poll is up over here

I have made it public in case someone outside the group votes- I would prefer to keep the counted votes with those playing.

if I have missed any options, let me know and I wil modify it. I have allowed fro multiple votes but keep it to two or three max, we want to be able to make a decision off this!

So GK, now that you've got us going on this, are there any links to some reading material we could look at on the Priory? You seem to be in the know ;-) I just don't want to assume that it is a European spiritualist take on Eastern monotheism. I guess Im just taking stabs now. I'll stop.

Its pretty easy to do (just Google it). there is some controversy over it (i.e. is it actual or just some creation of a bunch of Frenchman in 1956, but obviouslywe would be going down the route that it does actually exist)

Appologies in advance for contained text**

Just as a note, looking into the Scion, it seems to be very, very Eurocentric. If this is a hinderance to anyone's philosophical concept, maybe we should tweak it a bit. I'm not saying there should be some funky Mongoloian steppe conjurers running around in mideval France, but the whole (**possibly offensive comment**) "White Jesus thing" is only a good foil for conflicts with outside forces, i.e. Middle Eastern Christians. Honestly, I couldn't see the European Roman Catholics taking difference to the concept very much.
So now that I've potentially pissed someone off, I figured we'd have to talk about it at some point, even during voting. All I'm saying is that the Church would view us as wierd, the Order, even wierder, and our only true enemies are from other Christian cults.

So am I reading these web sites wrong, or what? Where are we taking the whole Scion thing?

Sorry for the delay- it was a long weekend here in RSA and I did a trip to a game park with the kids- no internet!

Anyways- since the vote tied on the City of covenant and the Priory of Sion, and some people do not like the Priory idea- let us do the spring covenant in Corcosonne idea.

To put it together- why not have averybody post their ideal traits and flaws for the covenant- till we get to the +20/-50 needed for a spring covenant.

Hey Ghostknight - Cool. Man, Ars Magica... been a long time since I even cracked the books...

You know this game won't be complete without a cryptex or two. :)
