People using Gary's avatar

Using that avatar isn't an issue for me . the im gary thing does bother me. But knowing gary was such a big gamer and he posted here for so long and never AFAIK had an issue with people using that avatar.I wouldn't want to see it go away it still makes me smile.

Nevertheless, it really bothers a lot of people, myself included. I'd appreciate it if you'd stop using "I'm Gary!"

But aren't we all, in a sense, Gary? Doesn't he live on in each of our hearts? I'm Gary, you're Gary, Eric's grandmother is Gary, every person who posts on this message board is Gary. ... We see Gary down every dimly lit hall, hiding in every 10' pit. ... Gary keeps killing my characters and taking my stuff. And I'm a better person for it.

The avatar, no. It's a cartoon parody of Gary Gygax. It's not Gary Gygax.

The "I'm Gary" thing on the other hand = very tacky. And trust me; I know all about being tacky.

Although I agree with the `people handle grief in thier own way´ thing I too was taken off guard when I first spotted Gary´s avatar after the sad news, and still am (and will be).

So hereby I ask thee: people, please stop using Gary´s avatar.

btw, I couldn´t care a rat´s behind if anybody thinks i´m being oversensitive.

If you don't like them using the avatars, I recommend right clicking and AdBlocking that particular image (assuming you're using Firefox and AdBlock/AdBlock Plus -- because, why wouldn't you?).

Everyone wins.

So, what you're saying is: You aren't overly sensitive about being over sensitive? ;)
It´s more like i am completely not sensitive to other´s people´s senses regarding me being over sensitive on this subject. I am quite sensitive when it comes to my own senses or the lack thereof.

I get the same way every time I see the American flag on a filthy T-shirt. There should be laws against the abuse of sacred images in public.

I can't imagine why someone would jump to the conclusion that someone is being disrespectful for using the image. Especially if they've been using that avatar for years. It's not like it's a satirical image of Gary. Gary himself voiced it. I doubt he took offense at people using it as their avatar. (I don't want to speak on behalf of him. That is not my intention.)

Personally, if people were using an avatar of me while I was alive, I wouldn't want them to stop when I've passed on. Doing so serves no purpose.

The LAST thing I want is laws determining what is and is not 'sacred'.
