Permanency and Death

What happens to spells made permanent with Permanency when the character dies and is raised?

A) The spells cease functioning when the character dies.
B) The spells will resume working after the character is raised.

Yeah, in fact I don't see why the permanent spells wouldn't remain even while a creature is dead. This would result in a dead body with a magic aura, but that seems acceptable. Also, this assumes just the spells in the core rules, if the DM has house-ruled some other spell that would be broken in this situation, then that's a different story.

Would the fact that the subject is no longer a valid target for the spell (i.e. a dead body is an object, not a creature or whatever is the target of the original spell) have an effect on the spell? I know that this arguement doesn't work against cases like Awaken, where the duration is instantaneous, but I can't remember exactly how it works if the duration is permanent.

Just assume the permanent spells are "attached" to the soul, not the body. So they would also reappear if the subject were reincarnated.

YMMV

I believe that targeting is only important when the spell is cast.

Otherwise, you could break a charm spell by removing the line of effect to the caster (as the charmed creature would no longer be a valid target for the spell).

heh...
Is death a good way to remove charms from fellow party members?

Body?

Does the answer differ if you use raise dead on the actual body or if you use true resurrection without any body (or body parts)?

No it doesn't. Or you would also loose the permanent spells when you Polymorph into something else temporarily.

In my eyes... permanent spells become spell-like abilities for the character. And spell-like abilities transfer into your new form from a polymorph spell.
