Ironically, the intersection between "men who enjoy D&D" and "men who get angry about gender-neutral usage of pronouns" seems surprisingly high.
Heh, I was going to comment as well.... there seems to be something special about women who notice pronoun usage vs men who do....

... suddenly not sure if I want people to notice that I notice pronoun usage ...

Well, as long as you notice that I noticed that you notice pronoun usage, you should be able to compensate.... ;)
I decided to stop doing that.

All five (grown, confident, mature) women in my group thought that the politically correct grammar in the 3E book was silly. However, none of them spend any time on message boards. So when looking at intersections, consider those that post and those that don't. :D

Consider those that care and those that don't.

It's really simple - if you don't care, you won't mind either way, so long as the grammar isn't tortured or ridiculous - and it certainly isn't in 3E. I'm sure this is how the women in your group feel.

If you do care, you'll notice, and it'll piss you off if it isn't "politically correct" as you put it (which imho, is a kind of rude attempt to marginalise/undermine it, but whatever).

D&D has enough stupid, unecessary sexism in it already. No need to add to it by insisting on a male gender pronoun 24-7. I mean, jeez, if we're going to insist on having Hookerplate McSexarmour on the front cover of the PHB, it's the least we can do, neh?

I was simply reporting what those women said. I'd say as far as offense goes, the bit dawg hollars.

I'm sure this is how the women in your group feel.

Well, you know what happens when you assume. They cared enough to be annoyed by the change (and gripe about it in our session), but not enough to post to a message board, write a letter to WotC, etc. The guys in the group didn't really care that much either way, but then we all spend more time online, and are more aware of where things are going.

And that's all I'm going to say on that, given the injunction in post #35, which I suggest you reread before reading "rudeness" into two descriptive words.

Unnecessary Political Correctness annoys me. I didn't see any in the 3E PHB.

I want both to be used (and also "it") because that makes the text clearer. And clear rules text is worth more than gold.

Like a lot of posters here, I was educated on the generic male pronoun. That said the only times i really notice in the 3.xe books was where they switched gender within a given discussion point.

In my opinion if you begin discussing trip attack using the male pronoun and switch to a female one mid discussion that is mildly disconcerting. However, if you kept the male pronoun for the trip attacks and switched to female for the grappling discussion I would doubt that I would notice.
