just looks darned cool with all the tropes in the right place for a swashbuckling flick pirate movie. There has not been a darned good pirate movie for a long long time. But its in the tradition of the mummy, and old adventure films. Plus it draws on the late 19th and early 20th century lit. Very cool. JD and Bloom are ok, but this has echos of the rime of the anchient mariner, cursed aztec gold (montezumas revenge), treasure island, jason and the argonauts, and who knows what other great literature. Just looks damed cool.

Oh, I've seen the trailer a dozen times and I agree that it does look good. I was just curious as to why you were looking forward to it the most out of all the releases. :)

They've certainly put together the cast and crew that can pull it off. I, too, have been looking forward to more information on this, and now I am definitely interested in seeing it on the big screen. Thanks for the heads up! :)

I love adventure flicks. I saw Holes last night and it was great! Highly recommended. Also looking forward to X-Men, and in a limited capacity Matrix. As for matrix- in my opinion its too much too late. Still, good eye candy. Then I need to concentrate on the serious movie stuff... like the Pianist and a few others.

I'm really looking forward to it, and hoping against hope that it will match my expectations.

I'm an unabashed swashbuckler fan. I have real difficulty watching silent films (so... overacted... head... exploding!) but I've seen and enjoyed a lot of the old swashbucklers, not to mention reading some of the greats as e-texts and even converting some of the best ones available through Project Gutenberg to PDF files.

I expressed reservations about this film before, based on the history of pirate/swashbuckler films of recent decades. The trailer does look good, however, so I was kind of hopeful.

Then I found out that it's based on a Disney theme park ride.

I will be very, very surprised if this movie doesn't suck.

It is named after a Disney theme park ride.

Given that the ride has no plot, no characters, and is basically nothing but a bunch of pirate scenes, saying the movie is "based on" the ride seems a bit far fetched.
