Play by Post. Interested?

Dandu suggests I create a play by post game, then accuses me of being lazy when I ask for help fulfilling that suggestion.

It's adorable, really.
Aww, don't worry about him, the rest of us just assume the two of you will have verbal duels and we mostly ignore it.

But Play my Post, I definitely look forward to details!

I'll wait to hear the Houserules before considering a build. Don't want to get an idea and then find it doesn't fit. Tibbit Psion/Totemist/Soul Manafester and all that.

Or Human Ranger. that'd be cool too.

Or somethin.

Although everything proposed sounds like a lot of fun in a regular game, if the above described characters are played, all it will "prove" in certain people's minds is that the splatbooks / full-casting classes / etc. are "unbalanced against the game."

If you want to prove a point, play all vanilla (not intentionally bad, but lets say optimized, core-only, single class) rogues and monks and let the DM present CR appropriate challenges and see what happens...

Then I'm probably not the person anyone wants to play the Monk- I conceded many years ago (long before I discovered ENWorld) that Monk math is bad.

My only point is that Monks can be fun to play. And so far, I've had fun with every Monk I've played.

I can't XP you or even get the "I can't XP you" message. It is very weird. Just nothing.

Anyway, I agree monks are fun to me too . I bet if you look back on it though the other players either were lower-tier, far from optimized, or good at buffing you and not stepping on your toes (in my case, all 3).

Well, my ENWorld Gameday monk was partnered with a Knight and a Sorcerer...maybe one other PC (its been a while). My Githzerai was with a Barbarian and a Wizard (played by an optimizer).

And all of my other monks have been played alongside that Wizard optimizer, since Wizards account for 85% of what he plays. And he's not into buffing (or crafting). Any buffs would be from items, multiclassing, or some other caster (if any).

I agree that this is the correct way to perform the experiment.

If needed, I'd be willing to play the monk, though I'd much rather do it on MapTool than PBP.

Because ultimately, it's a game, I want to have fun. I already know core rogue sucks, and SA can't harm at least 1/3 the crap in the MM. Doesn't mean I'm willing to waste a lot of time playing a gimp just to prove a point...

Maybe for this test I could be the Sorcerer? Their delayed casting is actually a hidden benefit with Visi's houserule...they need to have 1 higher CL for their spells. Not sure it's worth the whole "having no class features" thing, but eh. 8 HD or less Polymorphs for the whole team! :p

Doing ~d6 damage per hit to 1/3 of the enemies you face and having no spellcasting is a feature?

Look, core only single classed rogue is pretty simple...and boring. Just like my rogue build on page 2 minus all the splat stuff and using a shortbow, feats are the big 3 (PBS, Precise, and Rapid Shot), and either Improved Initiative or Leadership (if it's allowed, cause if it is, you're foolish not to take it). Still using ring of blinking and +1 seeking bow. Race is Deep Halfling, or if not even MM is "core" enough...dwarf. Rogues need darkvision to function.

That's basically it. Only other way to go is melee (TWF is best), and IMO wading into melee without Staggering Strike is suicidal, so not doing that...
