D&D 5E Playing 5e D&D wrong or broken word "CAN"?

You can get into the whole "can I / may I" thing.

Player: Can we find some treasure soon, DM?
DM: I don't know, can you?
Player: *grumble* May we find some treasure soon, DM?
DM: I'll think about it.

Well that proves it. D&D is hopelessly broken, no on can figure out how to play it.

... Wait does that mean they might able to figure it out or that they have no chance?
