Playing an Air Elemental

Unless you put an interesting twist on it. IMC I've got whole cities and cultures of elements on there home planes, so the idea of particular elementals with classes and magical enhancements is not so ridiculus, unless you have them pick up stuff made for material humanoids and use it normally.

It would work both ways, elementals would have their own items made by and for themselves that material creatures may not be able to use. It just comes down to being creative and creating effect equivalents from the perspective of how that elemental type sees the world. for eg:

  • Earth elementals: Enchanted gems that they carry inside their mass, with one use ones instead of potions that are destroyed when used, to ones with charges that are used like wands, through to ones that give permanent effects, including increasing natural armor bonuses and giving their attacks enhancement bonuses and special effects. They could be both use actived by attuning themselves to the gems to trigger the effect, and some may even require spell trigger activation by an earth elemental spell caster of the appropriate type.
  • Air Elementals: May be able to carry items up to a certain weight inside their mass, able to use carried items as a standard action simply through complex manipulation of wind currents inside their own bodies. Maybe have bottles of gases instead of potions, and bottles of dusts or items that circle their body masses to provides semipermenant or permenant effects. Picture a stream of glittering particles that circle their bodies and provide magical enchanements such as armor or attack bonuses but that are practically useless to a material creature unless they can produce a similar effect like a Djinn.
  • Fire Elementals: As above but with flamable powders or compounds that change the color of the creature when burnt and provide magical effects.
  • Water Elementals: As above but (obviously with various liquids.

These items can only be used by an elemental of the appropriate type, or though use magic device and an applicable means of providing activation, and possibly be able to be used by either a cleric with the appropriate elemental domain or an spell caster with the appropriate energy substitution feat.

Just some thoughts. Not really any more difficult to do in game terms than items only usable by orcs or elves etc.

Thanks! Those were some very cool ideas. I'll have to think some of them over. I've been reading Manual of the Planes hoping for some insight, and it seems like when you add a full elemental template nothing is really explicitly lost, so I'm sort of leaning towards a fairly liberal interpretation. Basically he's a human with the elemental template, or something along those lines. I haven't decided for sure, I'm still reading.

That might be a better way tom go as he will retain his humaniod shape. You've got to lave PCs that come up with character ideas that require this much work. :D
