Playing the Same Adventure Multiple Times (RPGA)

Thaumaturge

Wandering. Not lost. (He/they)
The new RPGA Living Forgotten Realms rules(here) allow one player to play the same adventure multiple times. Additionally, people can DM the mod first and then play it.

Presumably, this is to help those DMs who have had to "eat" mods because no one in the area had played the modules before.

What do people think of this? Is this a workable idea or an atrocity? I see some of the benefits, but it still strikes me as strange.

Thaumaturge.

Edit: Some discussion is already taking place here on the WotC boards.

I like this because you don't have to eat mods anymore. Also allows for someone who has a 20th level character but the table is looking like APL2 to be able to play the same module later with thier high level.

The downside is you will get some people at the table who will spoil it for everyone else and are just going through a mod to get access to magic item X.

I'm not accustomed to the way things are done in the RPGA, but I definitely don't like it.

You can make it work only if the player already knowing the module stays in the background at all times and doesn't give anyone hints. Since that's a pretty unfun way to play an adventure, I don't think it's a good idea.

Are there any other restrictions or could a player keep playing the same adventure over and over again?

Back in the old days I was a player in an adventure I already knew. For some reason I managed to avoid all the traps and locate hidden treasure as if I was clairsentient. I also just left the adventure after the first two easy encounters to enjoy my treasure. To make matters worse, the adventure was a bit front-loaded, i.e. you received several single-use items that were important to give you a chance at surviving later encounters.

In other words, this adventure and my behaviour were a prime example why allowing this can be a very bad idea indeed.
