D&D (2024) Playstyle Changes from 5E to 5.5E?

We don't know. We've only seen a limited amount so far, and even taking into account UA we don't know the full picture.

The short answer is that things won't change in the larger picture, but the details will be different. Someone described it as saying "if 14 power ran on 1d10, 24 ran on 2d4". That's basically what I'm seeing so far.

But how much it actually changes the game, we don't know but my guess is not as much as people wanted/feared.
So higher floor, lower ceiling? But by what metric?

I would rather they just revise the PHB every 5 years than put out an optional patch. MM and DMG can have a lower cadence.
I would rather they made the game they want to make creatively rather than the iteration that the brass thinks will make the most money for their shareholders.

I think they could have done a lot of that on top of 1e though. It just would have really added to the complication.
As far as I was concerned, that's basically what they did do. 2e was more stuff (a lot more stuff, but even so) that we could add to our 1e-based game.

And that's why I loved TSR.

They did already nerf many of the most egregiously overpowered spells in the UA, so some amount spell weakening is likely coming.

They can't just handle everything thru nerfs though if they're trying to pretend like 2014 and 2024 characters can co-exist. If you nerf everything then everyone just sticks with 2014 rules and the whole exercise was pointless.
As opposed to just paladins.

I know I felt that way about 2E back in the day, around the time of Skills & Powers. But currently, I don't feel like I've run the 5E engine ragged enough that I'm ready for the new model. It still has several years worth of mileage for me. I suppose I'll see ya'll down the road in a few years.
I'm not tired of the 5e engine at all. Just WotC's specific interpretation of it.
