Playtest: Martial Power 2

Fallen Seraph

First Post
No two warriors are exactly alike. Around the world schools of swordplay, tactical systems, martial philosophies, or simple local traditions provide many of a warrior’s basic strikes and parries. Collections of moves and attacks that work well slowly spread across the world, and become recognized as distinct schools, martial arts, or combat styles.

Previewing Combat Styles to be released in Martial Power 2:

They seem to limited to me....

Theres no sence in lookng at say Steel Vanguard Vetern unless your a fighter, or a warlord, who not only used a 2 handed heavy blade but also chose brash assault of brash strike that just seems too narrow to me.

I'm amused that in the same paragraph where they explain what a Playtest article is and tell how to send feedback, they instruct us to email with the subject "Playtest: Primal Power". LOL.

But I love this kind of granularity- if I want to play an idiosyncratic (i.e. sub-optimal) character, the at-will modification feats allow me to do more with those weapons and at-wills.

I found it weird that none of the styles mentioned any powers from MP2 itself. I'm thinking that these were intentionally left out, which makes sense to me.

Yeah, gotta be able to sell this book without having to sell MP1 as well.

Honestly, it'd be easy to throw in some of the other at-wills from MP1 for these feats anyway.

As for the stuff at hand, meh. I'm not too excited about it, but them's the breaks.

Yeah I wonder if those powers aren't finalized quite yet.

I find myself sort of turned off at the thought of a whole bunch of this stuff for all the classes. It's weird cause at a granular level I can get kind of jazzed at the idea of some different styles available... but the thought of wading through a lot of this is where it starts to get sticky.

I wonder based on these how often you'd find a fighter that took several of them. It sort of seems like they're written to allow that... anyone see any good combinations?

The warlord power Inspiring Strike is new. Either its a typo, or they accidentally failed to scrub all of the Martial Power II at wills from the document.

There is one mention of an at-will for warlords called, "inspiring strike." As far as I know that power does not exist. Maybe that is a reference to one from MP2?

I loved the Weaponstyle Feats in the Dragon Magazine, but strangely these Feats left me cold.

I'm not sure why, maybe it's the generic effect (not split up to the different at-wills) or to many +x damage (boring) and depended on a crit (you have no influence when it occurs and when not).

What I do like is that some unpopular weapons like the pick or scimitar get's some love. :)
