Monkey grip isn't about efficiency, it's about cool. Seriously, wouldn't you feel at least a little threatened when somewhen comes at you dual-wielding greatswords?

No. If I saw someone holding a sword longer than his body in each hand, I'd tell him he got lost and is in the wrong game. This is D&D, BESM is over thataway.

It is completely unbelieveable. I'll give that it isn't really broken, as you lose the 1.5x strength modifier. I actually hadn't considered it long enough to really think about the ramifications.

Monkey Grip and mercurial weapons are the silliest things in S&F, and its amazing the people that seem to think the two of them together are a good idea.

How long do you think a bastard sword is? I say it' about 5 ft, maybe a little longer, since it's a one-and-a-half handed weapon. And a 4 ft. dwarven ranger with exotic weapon proficiency (bastard sword) yould dual wield them with only -4 on attack rolls. And that's in D&D, not BESM.

That is silly too. Dual weilding any weapons of the same length is silly. It was never done historically, because it wasn't an effiecient way to fight. You can do silly things like this in the rules, doesn't mean its a good idea or that we need feats encouraging it.

The poll was asking for opinions on monkey grip. Mine is that its silly. The only dual weilding I like is either two light weapons, or rapier + dagger swashbuckler style. I don't allow it in my games. If playing in someone else's game I would never take it, and would make fun of anyone who did :).

And damage wise, wouldn't you be just as well off using two short swords and power attacking for 2 each round (average damage = 3 + 2 = 5) as taking the penalties to use two bastard swords? (average = 5).

That would be a great sword. IRL at least.

It would be interesting to have this poll show the ages of the takers.

Yeah, I'd be willing to bet the people who think dual-wielding big swords is silly tend to be the old fogies of the group.

Maybe I'm too much of a pwergamer but I'd never take it. I don't think it is silly. The only really silly thing is people geting bent because someone likes to insert a little anime into thier DD games. Virtually nothing in D&D is realistic, so what if someone likes a different style of unrealistic in thie D&D games.

Oh, I'm not bent out of shape. Play however you like, however there are games that are more suited for that style of play. The question asked was what is your opinion, and mine is that the feat is silly.

Oh, and I'm 27. Is that a fogie?

I hope it isn't a fogie considering I turn 29 in 2 weeks.

I guess you just have an old heart :)

Honestly, I don't understand why people think this feat makes you look silly. It just baffles me. Why would two greatswords look any more silly than two bastard swords, or two longswords for that matter? How is this NOT part of the D&D universe, given that D&D figures have portrayed a fighter/barbarian with two huge swords since the very beginning of D&D? It might not be the style of YOUR game, but it certainly does suit the style of the D&D game as a whole.
