Reading that section – particularly the part about switching the DM midstream – reminded me of how my group started up our first 3e campaign back in Summer 2000. We all made up characters and ended up doing basically what that suggested, round-robining the DMing (this when only the PHB was out, having been released just a few days prior to the first session) so we all could run PCs for at least most of the evening each of the first few sessions (we eventually settled into two or three rotating DMs in a sandbox).
I can easily imagine doing the same thing in a group in 5e, especially through the first few levels. Beyond that, however, having always played in multi-GM groups, the idea of trading up DMs like that is probably my favorite 'module' in the book!
