Another interesting Realms connection, is that Simon, the half-elf wild sorcerer, is the descendent of Elminster Aumar! Which is why Simon feels a lot of pressure to be good at magic, and is frustrated with his difficulties.

In defense of these names, it's not like we don't have worse names for places in the real world. Case in point, "Boner Knob Mountain."

Or the town of Dildo in Newfoundland.

Might be worth a mention: In The Road to Neverwinter novel "Forge FizWilliam" is lampshaded, and it's strongly implied it's an alias.
