Polyhedron - Shadow Chasers

I see your point about a Strong Hero 10/Solider 10 having a a BAB +20 but it gets even worse when you compare the Solider class with the Shadow Slayer.

One method to become the Slayer is Fast Hero 2/Strong Hero 2/Shadow Slayer 1 so you need to be atleast 5th level before you become the Slayer. And then your BAB is +3

Your Strong Hero3/Solider 1 is only 4th level but is more than twice as good in combat.

Zander has atleast one level of Solider from his weird military episode, is he better than Buffy?

Also ignoring the Solider's BAB for awhile it doesn't explain the Fort +4 save followed by +1 to Ref and Will. None of the base classes have such poor saves that they need to be made up. So the catch up theory doesn't seem to apply here. Seems much more like an editing fault.

well shadow chaser is a break with current traditions of some holy cows.

one thing is you need to be certain level of a certain class (though I heard this might change) to gain a prestige class, next is the fact prestige classes are wildly better then regurlar classes, especially the strong, fast, healthy, smart, wise, whatever hero, which are suppose to be bad so in the end the "front loaded" PrCs make up for the loss.

As for buffy compares to xander, that should perhaps belong to a buffy game, not a buffy like game. also remember buffy might have a wildly higher level.

I don't think you should see the odd ball cases as errors, but more like the start point of the in house playtesting, they haven't done much, it even sounds to me as if they had to rush it a bit. Personally I think shadow chaser has many good stuff, I like how they went to VP/WP, how armor decreases wound damage, defense and so on. Heck even +0 ECL templates are given, those are pure fun hehe.

The fiendish/lycanthropic/vampiric blood templates were great!

As for the game itself, eh... I'll reserve my opinion until d20 Modern comes out. I really didn't like the starting classes and having to wait several levels to get into a prestige (normally a regular class like mage or soldier), what was that all about? I guess I just don't get it.

The system seems okay, but the art was so crappy for the most part, that I was completely turned off. I was not excited in the slightest. It was like horrible comic book art gone awry. While the name shadowchasers was cool, either have decent (read decent, not necessarily awesome) art or expect to lose sales. Surely that is obvious.

my 2 cents.

I liked the pictures of the troll cabbie, bugbear cop, mind flayer tycoon and vampire playboy; that artist is awesome!!! But the rest of the art was appallingly bad, especially the cover artist's contributions. As razuur said, it was a complete turn-off. Awful. Just awful.

That wasn't a 'vampire playboy'.......that was a wight. A pimp wight......and that's the joke. It case you didn't get it, let me spell it out.......

It's a BLACK wight!

Oh, and I loved the other art. It reminded me of Mage. Not the game, mind you, the comic 'Mage,' with the unwashed jeans-and wifebeater shirt guy who's king Arthur Pendragon's reincarnation fighting the evil alternate-dimension shadowy evil guys with his glowing baseball bat 'excalibur'.....but everybody's wrapped up in their humdrum lives and never notices the monsters.....hmm....this is odd.......

Erm why is he Black? The skin tone look pretty pale to me. Is he black because he's a pimp then?

Please tell me that's not what you're implying.

No. That's not it.

Look at the proportions of his hands and feet compared to his body and head. Also, look at the width of the wouth and thickness of the lips, in addition to the height of the nose on the face and its width. Though the wight has pale skin, he shares physical features common in many african-americans. The fact that he's portraying an annoying stereotype just makes you want to kill him.

You guys are pretty harsh on the art, personnaly i think Jim Mahfood's(that would be"the cover artist guy") underground, indie, style fit well with the concept for the game. I thought all the art was great. I would love to see more good comic artists get to show cases thier work in polyhedron, especially somebody like Brett Booth, or really any other big name comic artists.
