Polymorph other on your familiar?

Don't see why not. Of course, it can be dispelled.

I'm also not sure just how well said familiar might react to being given a different body...

Polymorph Other does not let the subject keep supernatural abilities, like empathic link.

Since the familiar serves its master with unswerving loyalty, I'd rule that the familiar would be content with just about any shape that its master considered appropriate.

There's a lot of debate regarding this spell, and a few revisions in official D&D docs. I personally don't consider addition-expense supplemental publications to be adequate vehicles for communicating errata, so I stick pretty much to the SRD version.

I'm thought you keep the supernatural abilities of your previous form, you just don't gain any new ones. It doesn't make sense for a cat familair to lose the empathic link with the master just because its a bear. Certainly the beings mind is unaltered by the spell.

familiarity

Not true--the mind is altered so that it can control the new body. Besides, the empathic link & other familiar powers are lost because it cannot keep supernatural abilities in its new form.

Nowhere in any of the versions of Polymorph Other does it mention anything about losing supernatural abilities. It does mention that you don't gain the supernatural abilities of the new form though, perhaps that's where the confusion is stemming from?
From the System Resource Document (SRD) (emphasis mine)...
The subject retains its own type (for example, "humanoid"), extraordinary abilities, spells, and spell-like abilities, but not its supernatural abilities.
Not too easy to misinterpret that one.

What's the big idea misquoting me like that? I specifically said that everyone who thinks a familiar would retain ist supernatural abilities is a fool and should be lined up and shot at dawn!

It's pretty rude to abuse the quote functionality of these message boards like that!

Oh, and should I infer from your follow-up that doctoring previous messages in a pathetic attempt to deny culpability would not fall into the category of "rude"? :D

Hrumph! I'd have expected better from a fellow Fort-Worthian, neighbor. ;)
