[Potential SPOILERS] Enterprise - Course Correction?

It would be a big improvement if they detach ENTERPRISE from and remove elements associated with Star Trek.

No, I don't think that would do it. I think the big improvement would come if they detach Enterprise (and Star Trek in general) from Mssrs. Brannon and Braga, and get some new creators.

Or even old creators -- wasn't Wolfe, the guy that "left" Andromeda, one of the people behind DS9 for a while? Or some creative types from Farscape, Buffy, etc. -- they need jobs. Anybody but B&B. They'd probably need to have a little more freedom to work from Universal.

Heck, maybe that's all the current group needs -- the freedom to just make the show, and make it interesting, rather than having to Protect The Franchise above all else. I doubt it, but maybe.

Speaking of lesbian kissing...

It would be mighty-fun to see the Farscape creative team take over Trek. I'm biased as hell but that would really put some new life into things. Not that I have a huge problem with the series as is. The second half eps of seasons 1&2 have been quite good. It's the overall seasons that have been a tad lacking. But I have mentioned before that I'm willing to give it time based on the Trek formula: The first 2 or 3 seasons will be okay with some gems scattered in there and then the show will REALLY take off (except Voyager which was DOA).

I do think that Enterprise is running too many of the same ideas, but rehashed in a new environment, but that Temporal Cold War thing, I like it.

I do think it being on UPN is an issue, to agree with others. It just doesn't have the exposure that the other networks do. I would have liked to have seen it in syndication. I always liked having Trek on the weekends...
Perhaps. That's why UPN don't air regularly scheduled programming in Hawaii anymore (the former UPN-WB station decided not to renew the contract, sticking with WB).

Luckily, two local stations bought airtime for some of the UPN programs, including ENTERPRISE and Twilight Zone in one station, and soon-to-end Buffy on another.

It makes no difference to me. I still recognize Braga's quality signature when he did VOYAGER and now doing it to ENTERPRISE. If you remove him and install a better producer and leading writer, then you might improve the show (as long the new hire adheres to the established continuity).

While the Star Trek label may keep a healthy chunk watching ENT, it's the Braga name attached to the shows that pushes longtime fans (the bigger healthy chunk) away from watching them.

Interesting though, I heard rumours that someone might have to go, but this someone wasn`t Braga, but Berman (or who is still there from the old crew). This really makes me wonder, since every fan I heard from complained about Braga, no one else...

I think the first few steps in the right direction would be:

1. change the ship's name from "Enterprise" to "Serenity."
2. change the captain's name to "Mal."
3. get a whole new cast (I have suggestions).
4. introduce a funky Western-meets-Scifi universe.
5. oh yeah, fire B&B and let Joss Whedon steer the show.

-tRR, *still* bitter about Firefly's cancellation.

They say it is a new direction BUT!

One, they first have to write good stories.

Second, they need to use the villians they already have. Klingons, the clans/families/tribes, if you can't make them look like any 3rd world evil leader you are an idoit. We know that Kirk hated them, lets see why! Hell, let them win!

Third, Farscape!

Its not the story concepts that have been the problem (OK maybe a couple of times) but the implementation of those concepts. Sure we can have new/changed characters and a new quest, but without better writing and directing it is all for naught.

Well, we don't have a UPN affiliate around here so I have to wait until Saturday to see it, since I don't have cable. So I get to see it on the weekend... :)

Downside is, I have to avoid the Enterprise threads until then.

I totally agree.

A lot of fans say the first two seasons of TNG sucked. Though I actually prefer the earlier episodes of the series myself; I don't like the episodes from around the middle of the fifth season to the end of the series as much. Interestingly enough, that's about when Braga started working on Trek. Coincidence? (Sorry Mark, but I couldn't resist the cheap shot :)).

And DS9, really didn't hit its stride until about the 3rd or 4th season. Only Voyager never got anyway, but that's because it was bogged down with too many 7 of 9 episodes. I think the same thing may end up being true of Enterprise. I doubt UPN will yank it; Star Trek's always been pretty much a cash cow with a guaranteed audience. Regardless of how things turn out with the Suliban/TCW, things have to heat up with the Romulans. There's a war coming, and that could really get some of the fans interested.
