There are some in my group that do use them.
I personally don't use them because I like to 'mark stuff up' when I play, so I have my own notes on paper that I can scratch-up guilt-free.
Yes yes, i know there are ways around this by putting it in a plastic sleeve and using erasable marker, etc. but it just isn't the same for me.

as an aside, i did try using them for one character (that lasted two sessions due to a tpk). i found that i was taking more time to pick powers and fidgeting frequently because i just 'had to look at all the options one last time to compare' it was sucking my time. where as if i have them on a single sheet or two i can just scan right down the list. and i have such high anxiety disorders, i had to keep counting my cards to make sure I didn't lose one, even though it had been less than a minute since i counted last time and they didn't move from my sight on the table.... (yeah, I never said i didn't have problems. :) ).

You could print them up on cheap paper and do the same thing. One guy I knew did just that. Took notes on the powers themselves, kept track of uses and effectiveness, experimented with combinations and wrote that down too.

I use the Character Builder and I print the power card sheets on 110pound cardstock and cut them out. I then organize them into multiple stacks, at-wills, encounters, dailies, and items. I then put them under the clip on my clipboard which holds my character sheet. I also take that nifty little character summary card which has the character's defenses and what not and hand it to the DM. This way when he rolls attacks he doesn't need to constantly query everyone for their defenses.

Others in my group will just use the sheets of cards uncut.

I'm really surprised by people saying the character builder is clunky. My girlfriend was previously not a gamer. When 4E came out I got her into a game I was running. We made the character the old fashion way by hand and filled everything out. She really didn't like that, and most nongamers get annoyed by all the math and adjustments. However, she LOVES the character builder. When we started a new campaign (where I get to play for the first time!) she spent HOURS coming up with different characters with different backstories and histories and rolled up the whole thing without help. So I think it's definitely not "clunky"

I must agree. Just minutes ago my 8 year old daughter made a character on the CB with very little help from me.
