Power Enhancement Feats: Paladin Powers

With respect to the challenge feats, the key effect I was trying to achieve was to allow a paladin to challenge an opponent and draw it away from someone else. With the exception of Duellist's Challenge, which requires that nobody else attack the target, the other three challenges require the paladin to present himself as a target in some way. Baiting Challenge basically requires the target to see the paladin, Circling Challenge requires the paladin to remain close to the target, and Hunter's Challenge requires the paladin to get closer to the target in every round. The last one, at least, prevents the paladin from running away from the target unless he had also attacked it on his turn.

I do recognize that not all the challenge feats will sit well with everyone, which is why I thought I should add words to the effect that the DM may add further prerequisites to these feats. Some DMs may feel that Circling Challenge may be appropriate for paladins of Avandra, but not paladins of Bahamut, for example.

The following feats improve the 23rd-level paladin encounter powers. Dazing Thunder and Healing Transposition were previously seen as feats enhancing 7th-level powers, and have just been amended to affect the 23rd-level powers in the same way. This is because the 23rd-level powers are basically upgraded versions of the 7th-level powers.
Dazing Thunder (Paladin, Power Enhancement)
Prerequisites: Paladin, thunder smite power or resounding smite power
Benefit: When you use your thunder smite power or your resounding smite power and score a critical hit, the target is also dazed until the end of your next turn.

Healing Transposition (Paladin, Power Enhancement)
Prerequisites: Paladin, benign transposition power or sublime transposition power, lay on hands power
Benefit: In the same round that you use your benign transposition power or your sublime transposition power, you may use lay on hands on the primary target even if he is not within melee reach of you.

Martyr's Vigor (Paladin, Power Enhancement)
Prerequisites: Paladin, martyr's smite power
Benefit: When you use your martyr's smite power and hit with an attack, you may spend a healing surge and gain temporary hit points equal to your healing surge value instead of regaining hit points.

Restraining Doom (Paladin, Power Enhancement)
Prerequisites: Paladin, here waits thy doom power
Benefit: You may increase the range of your here waits thy doom power to 1 + your Wisdom modifier.
In addition, when you use your here waits thy doom power, hit with the attack and end your turn adjacent to the target, it must make an immediate saving throw. If it fails the saving throw, it is also restrained until the end of your next turn.​
 

The following feats improve the 27th-level paladin encounter powers.
Certain Vengeance (Paladin, Power Enhancement)
Prerequisites: Paladin, deific vengeance power
Benefit: When you use your deific vengeance power, you do not provoke opportunity attacks and you ignore any penalties from cover or concealment, including superior cover and total concealment.

Restorative Judgment (Paladin, Power Enhancement)
Prerequisites: Paladin, brand of judgment power
Benefit: When you use your brand of judgment power and hit with the attack, a creature hit by an attack made by the target on its next turn may spend a healing surge as a free action.

Restricting Vision (Paladin, Power Enhancement)
Prerequisites: Paladin, restricting smite power
Benefit: When you use your restricting smite power and hit with an attack, the target also grants combat advantage to all your allies until the end of your next turn.

Sensory Deprivation (Paladin, Power Enhancement)
Prerequisites: Paladin, blinding smite power
Benefit: When you use your blinding smite power and hit with the attack, you also suppress any special senses possessed by the target, such as blindsense or tremorsense, until the end of your next turn. Creatures with such special senses suffer the normal penalties for being blinded until the end of your next turn.

Sweeping Stun (Paladin, Power Enhancement)
Prerequisites: Paladin, stunning smite power
Benefit: When you use your stunning smite power and hit with an attack, the target is also knocked prone.​
 

Milestone feats are intended to encourage characters to conserve their daily powers and to continue adventuring. This may involve one or more of the following:

1. The feat may provide a bonus that increases with every milestone.

2. The feat may grant a milestone ability after the character first reaches a milestone after taking an extended rest. Usually, such abilities can only be used once per milestone, and are refreshed when the character reaches subsequent milestones. If the character does not use a once per milestone ability before he reaches another milestone, the previous use of the milestone ability is lost. Milestone abilities are also lost when the character takes an extended rest.

3. The feat may provide an improvement to one of a character's daily powers that varies with the number of milestones reached. Such feats are also power enhancement feats.

Generally, characters only enjoy the benefits of milestone feats if they have three or more encounters before they take an extended rest; a milestone feat provides few or no benefits during the first two encounters, before a milestone is reached. Milestone feats usually provide benefits that are more significant than regular feats to offset this.

The following milestone power enhancement feats improve the 1st-level paladin daily powers.

Delirium Strike (Paladin, Milestone)
Prerequisites: Paladin, radiant delirium power
Milestone Ability: Once per milestone, when you hit with a melee basic attack or a 1st-level paladin at-will attack power, the target also takes a penalty to AC equal to the number of milestones you have reached. This penalty lasts until the end of your next turn.
Power Enhancement: When you use your radiant delirium power, regardless of whether you hit or miss with your attack, the target takes an additional penalty to AC equal to the number of milestones you have reached until the end of your next turn.

Healing Judgment (Paladin, Milestone)
Prerequisites: Paladin, paladin's judgment power
Milestone Ability: Once per milestone, when you hit with a melee basic attack or a 1st-level paladin at-will attack power, an adjacent ally may spend a healing surge and regain additional hit points equal to the number of milestones you have reached.
Power Enhancement: When you use your paladin's judgment power, the ally who spends a healing surge regains additional hit points equal to your Wisdom modifier plus twice the number of milestones you have reached.

Promise of Pain (Paladin, Milestone)
Prerequisites: Paladin, on pain of death power
Milestone Ability: Once per milestone, when you hit with a melee basic attack or a 1st-level paladin at-will attack power, the target takes damage equal to 1d8 + the number of milestones you have reached after making any attacks on its next turn.
Power Enhancement: When you use your on pain of death power, regardless of whether you hit or miss with your attack, the target takes additional damage equal to the number of milestones you have reached after making any attacks on its turn. A successful save against your power ends this effect.​

The following milestone power enhancement feats improve the 5th-level paladin daily powers.

Hallowed Protection (Paladin, Milestone)
Prerequisites: Paladin, hallowed circle power
Benefit: When you use your second wind, the bonus you gain to all defenses is equal to 2 + the number of milestones you have reached.
Power Enhancement: When you use your hallowed circle power, you and each ally within the zone of bright light gain a power bonus to all defenses equal to 2 + the number of milestones you have reached until the end of your next turn. Thereafter, you and each ally within the zone gain a +2 power bonus to all defenses until the end of the encounter.

Martyr's Strike (Paladin, Milestone)
Prerequisites: Paladin, martyr's retribution power
Milestone Ability: Once per milestone, when you hit with a melee basic attack or a 1st-level paladin at-will attack power, you may spend a healing surge as a free action. Instead of regaining hit points, you deal an additional 1[W] damage for each milestone you have reached.
Power Enhancement: When you use your martyr's retribution power, you deal an additional 1[W] radiant damage for each milestone you have reached. This additional damage is halved on a miss.

Strike of Vulnerabilty (Paladin, Milestone)
Prerequisites: Paladin, sign of vulnerability power
Milestone Ability: Once per milestone, when you hit with a melee basic attack or a 1st-level paladin at-will attack power, the target gains vulnerability to radiant damage equal to the number of milestones you have reached until the end of the encounter.
Power Enhancement: When you use your sign of vulnerability power and hit with the attack, the target gains vulnerability to radiant damage equal to 5 + the number of milestones you have reached until the end of the encounter.​
 

The following milestone power enhancement feats improve the 9th-level paladin daily powers.

Pushing Pulse (Paladin, Milestone)
Prerequisites: Paladin, radiant pulse power
Milestone Ability: Once per milestone, when you hit with a melee basic attack or a 1st-level paladin at-will attack power, you may push the target a number of squares equal to the number of milestones you have reached.
Power Enhancement: When you use your radiant pulse power, you gain a bonus to the primary attack roll equal to the number of milestones you have reached. You also gain a bonus on all damage rolls for this power equal to the number of milestones you have reached.

Restraining Glory (Paladin, Milestone)
Prerequisites: Paladin, crown of glory power
Milestone Ability: Once per milestone, when you hit with a melee basic attack or a 1st-level paladin at-will attack power, the target is slowed until the end of your next turn.
Power Enhancement: When you use your crown of glory power, you may immobilize one adjacent enemy per milestone you have reached until the end of your next turn.

Solitary Valor (Paladin, Milestone)
Prerequisites: Paladin, one stands alone power
Benefit: When you have no allies within 5 squares of you, you gain a bonus to attack rolls equal to the number of milestones you have reached.
Power Enhancement: When you use your one stands alone power, you gain a bonus to the damage roll equal to twice the number of milestones you have reached.​
 

The following milestone power enhancement feats improve the 15th-level paladin daily powers.

Bloodied Recovery (Paladin, Milestone)
Prerequisites: Paladin, bloodied retribution power
Milestone Ability: Once per milestone, when you are bloodied and you hit with a melee basic attack or a 1st-level paladin at-will attack power, you may spend a healing surge and regain additional hit points equal to the number of milestones you have reached.
Power Enhancement: When you use your bloodied retribution power, you gain a bonus to the damage roll equal to twice the number of milestones you have reached. In addition, if you spend a healing surge, you regain additional hit points equal to twice the number of milestones you have reached.

Breaking Strike (Paladin, Milestone)
Prerequisites: Paladin, break the wall power
Milestone Ability: Once per milestone, when you hit with a melee basic attack or a 1st-level paladin at-will attack power, the target takes a penalty to all defenses equal to the number of milestones you have reached until the end of your next turn.
Power Enhancement: When you use your break the wall power and hit with the attack, your target takes a penalty to all defenses equal to 2 + the number of milestones you have reached (save ends). If you miss, your target takes a penalty to all defenses equal to 1 + half the number of milestones you have reached (save ends).

Nemesis Strike (Paladin, Milestone)
Prerequisites: Paladin, true nemesis power
Milestone Ability: Once per milestone, when you hit with a melee basic attack or a 1st-level paladin at-will attack power, you may make an opportunity attack against the target if it attacks you or an ally before the end of your next turn. In addition, you gain a bonus to the damage roll for your opportunity attack equal to the number of milestones you have reached.
Power Enhancement: When you use your true nemesis power, you do not provoke the normal opportunity attack for making a ranged attack. In addition, you gain a bonus on all damage rolls for this power equal to the number of milestones you have reached.​
 

The following milestone power enhancement feats improve the 19th-level paladin daily powers.

Dazzling Corona (Paladin, Milestone)
Prerequisites: Paladin, corona of blinding radiance power
Milestone Ability: Once per milestone, when you hit with a melee basic attack or a 1st-level paladin at-will attack power, the target takes a penalty on attack rolls equal to the number of milestones you have reached until the end of your next turn.
Power Enhancement: When you use your corona of blinding radiance power and hit with an attack, after the target succeeds on its saving throw, it takes a penalty on attack rolls equal to the number of milestones you have reached (save ends).

Crusader's Boost (Paladin, Milestone)
Prerequisites: Paladin, crusader's boon power
Milestone Ability: Once per milestone, when you hit with a melee basic attack or a 1st-level paladin at-will attack power, you gain a bonus on attack rolls equal to the number of milestones you have reached until the end of your next turn.
Power Enhancement: When you use your crusader's boon power, you and allies adjacent to you gain a power bonus to attack rolls equal to 2 + the number of milestones you have reached until the end of your next turn. Thereafter, you and allies adjacent to you gain a +2 power bonus to attack rolls until the end of the encounter.

Inferno Strike (Paladin, Milestone)
Prerequisites: Paladin, righteous inferno power
Milestone Ability: Once per milestone, when you hit with a melee basic attack or a 1st-level paladin at-will attack power, you deal an additional 1d10 fire damage per milestone you have reached, and the target grants combat advantage to you and your allies until the end of your next turn.
Power Enhancement: When you use your righteous inferno power, you gain a bonus on all damage rolls for this power equal to the number of milestones you have reached.​
 

Thanks for working on this. I agree that the Paladin could benefit from some additional feats (particularly since most of the divinity feats are so lame).

Punishing Flame (Paladin, Milestone)
Prerequisites: Paladin, to the nine hells with you power
Milestone Ability: Once per milestone, when you hit with a melee basic attack or a 1st-level paladin at-will attack power, the target takes ongoing fire damage equal to 5 + the number of milestones you have reached (save ends).
Power Enhancement: When you use your to the nine hells with you power, the ongoing damage you deal is equal to 10 + the number of milestones you have reached.

Retributive Strike (Paladin, Milestone)
Prerequisites: Paladin, exalted retribution power
Milestone Ability: Once per milestone, when you hit with a melee basic attack or a 1st-level paladin at-will attack power, you may make an opportunity attack against the target if it makes an attack before the end of your next turn. In addition, you gain a bonus to the attack roll and the damage roll for your opportunity attack equal to the number of milestones you have reached.
Power Enhancement: When you use your exalted retribution power, you deal additional damage equal to twice the number of milestones you have reached. In addition, you gain a bonus on damage rolls for opportunity attacks against the target equal to the number of milestones you have reached.​
