PRC Burnout (poll)

In a game you GM, do you allow PRCs?

  • Nothing better than a PC/NPC with 5+ stacking PRCs

  • Maximum of one PRC per PC/NPC

  • Rarely, only in special cases (Chosen One, etc)

  • Never! PRCs are unbalanced.

I rarely allow them. The concept is okay - the sheer number of them has made me go "meh" and ignore most of them. I don't have the time nor inclination to wade through them all to determine what's appropriate for my campaign.

Consequently, I avoid books that have an abundance of 'em.

We actually don't have enough PRC. I don't care how many pcl a character has as long as it fits the character. I don't worry about people min maxing, I trust my players. So, it doesn't matter who many or how few a character has in my eyes. If you are worried about powergamers, then maybe you are playing with the wrong people.

This sums up exactly how I feel as well.
 

I love prestige classes! They allow options for players wanting to create original characters without increasing the number of core classes. Prestige classes are so much better than the horrible 2e kits (which were all either underpowered or overpowered). I don't mind the glut of prestige classes, I've always figured that it was up to the DM to pick and choose which classes to allow in the campaign.
 


I have to agree. The unbalanced feats cause more damage because it's hard to see them as such when you're looking at them. An unbalanced PrC is hard to miss.

Good thing that I dislike PrCs. I wouldn't allow them either, except for rare, rare, rare, rare, rare situations.

I couldnt really vote as there was not an option that fit how I handle them.

PRC's in my game are not just things you decide to enter, you must be abel to enter them.. you must have played in such a way that makes sense for you to be seeking to enter a PRC, you must also find someone to teach you enough of the techniques to gain it, or join the organisation in question or be sponsored by someone appropriate etc.... In other words it must make game sense.

Would I allow a PC to pick up multiple PRC's yes, but only so long as again it made sense from a game perspective.

There have been times in my game where PC's have been waiting a level or two or more even before they can enter a PRC even after they have most of the requirements to do so, simply because it hasn't made sense in the game at that time for them to do so.
 

in games i GM, i expect every PC to end the campaign with at least one prestige class. if no existing prestige class meets what a character wants to do, we can make one up.

i'm all for variety. who'd want to be limited to the eleven core classes? ;)
