Prestige Class: Husband

I'm picking up this PrC this saturday :)

But you left out the pre-req involving giving up one of your ring slots.

Maybe a special requirement that you obtain a cursed ring magic item which subjects you to a permanent Geas? ;)

Weapon: Ball & Chain
2d10 “Piercing” Damage Crit: x3

Savvy wielders of the ball and chain are able to do great amounts of damage to enemies. In addition to the normal damage cause by a hit, opponents suffer a –4 morale penalty for 1 hour after a successful strike do to the berating the weapon delivers. If struck twice in a single round, the player needs to make a Fort save DC 25 or be deafened for 12 hours (some say this is a mercy) and will fail all Listen checks for the duration.

The drawback to using such a potent weapon is that if you miss the opponent by 5 or more on the attack roll, you will suffer the attack as a backlash. The weapon will never let the backlash deafen the wielder; however, you can suffer the morale penalty.

Never call the ball and chain “ball and chain.” All ball and chains have names like Sweety, Honey, Pumpkin, and Love. If you ever refer to the weapon as ball and chain all uses or the weapon that day result in a roll of 1. Not to mention you will be sleeping alone for a week.

I suspect that this is more appropriate as a template than a PrC. After all, this is a PrC in which you have to keep advancing -- if you take a level in another class, you immediately become an ex-Husband.

Adopting this template provides a bonus to Con, but results in a drop in Wis (or perhaps those are the PrC pre-reqs!).

Also, it provides a +4 bonus to Will saves versus Charm and Compulsion -- but only if the game is on. When the game is not on, or there is not a beer in the Husband's hand, the Husband suffers from a condition known as "whipped": -2 to Str and Cha, -2 to Will saves versus Charm and Compulsion.

But there are ex-Husbands. There are also some who are fools enough to try the prestige class more than once.

Exactly, but how many other PrC's can you reenter at 1st level multiple times? When you become an ex-Husband, you regain all of your pre-Husband abilities. Much more like a template, that way, IMO. :)

I think of it like loosing your casting ablities for a while if you switch deities.
Only you have a new ball and chain.

Ah, so we need to add "patron deity" to the pre-reqs. That makes sense. Even acknowledging another deity requires you to atone -- praying to another one also makes you an ex-Husband.

Sounds like one tough PrC to maintain, doesn't it?
