Previews for July and Beyond

And you forget the lot that don't want to see that sort of transition?

Since when did D&D and Star Wars become the same game? What works for Star Wars doesn't necessarily work for D&D. I personally like the fact that characters are all different with their skills, for example. Not every character having the same exact bonus, with only their ability score showing barely little difference. I also think it's silly that only a +5 bonus differentiates between a trained and an untrained skill.

At least with the way D&D is now, you know a 10th-level Fighter is untrained in, say, Climbing (0 ranks), a little good at it (4 ranks), decent at it (8 ranks), or mastered it (13 ranks) for his level, instead of every 10th-level Fighter being just as good at Climbing as the next guy.

That's just one gripe I have about Saga being used for D&D.

I won't continue going into anymore specifics, but, just consider Saga rules to be implemented in, say, an Unearthed Arcana 2 and not a reason to alter 3.5E into 4E ok?

Transition? Oh come on! You're complaining about people interested in taking Star Wars RPG rules and modifying them for their home D&D games??!!?? No where on Wizards site have you seen an article saying, "Hey, you should get used to these rules, cause next month it's the new D&D!" Wizards isn't trying to "transition" you to the Saga d20 rules, they're just simply letting you know they're out there!

If Wizards naturally sees a crossover marketing opportunity . . . . *gasp* D&D roleplayers interested in Star Wars roleplaying products *gasp* . . . . they'd be fools not to make sure we all knew about the new products.

No one is shoving Star Wars down your throat Razz. Step back and chill man.

I'm thinking that those people could best be catered for by, say, having them simply not read that part of the preview article .

I liked reading the Star Wars part preview. Thanks for suggesting it be included Moridin.

Sigh.

(edited out stuff to avoid de-railing) :\

I suppose the only hope left is that the Awakening follows and we all start living Shadowrun, so at least some of us can retain our free will and fight the corporate zombies with cyberware, sorcery, and the Somatic Way. :heh:

Hmm, kinda wish he'd not put in that comment about GenCon. I'm not ready for another round of "4e is here! The sky is falling!"

As for the products themselves, I'll be getting MMV and "Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk". I may pick up that new villain's handbook as well, depending on the specifics of what's in it. Also, I've just been reminded, I need to go pick up "The Sinister Spire".

MMV and Exemplars of Evil look good, but after that, it's pretty sparse. It's pretty much all novels or things indirectly related to the game such as "Confessions of a Part-Time Sorceress" and the behind the scenes books. It may not mean 4E is just around the corner, but it does make you wonder what's going on at WotC.

Exemplars of Evil looks good? Come on, the darn thing only has NINE villains. That doesn't sound like a Rogues Gallery to me.

Having said that, the hint about attending GenCon, coupled with all the changes they've been making on the Amazon board, would seem to herald 4e's arrival.

RIP 3.5

I'm saying they've never previewed Star Wars in a D&D previews article before, why suddenly start now? That'd be like you trying to purchase, say, a new plasma TV and need some information on what's coming out for the plasma TV line, yet the retailers are shoving ads for new bathroom tiles in your face....instead of the more logical blu-ray players and surround sound stereo systems for example.

A lot of people think True20 should be the new D&D, but you don't see WotC shoving loads of True20 in our faces? I just think that WotC is telling me "Get Saga, even though we want you to buy our D&D products, we really want you to check out Saga...for reasons we can't discuss, of course."

What else could they be saying really? Most D&D gamers play or like Star Wars, so let's throw Star Wars ads on the D&D website?

Have you seen D&D books previewed on their Star Wars page? No. Why not?

It's just rather ominous to me.

Sigh. And even more than before, my fear that 4th Edition is right around the very corner, waiting in the shadows to pounce on us from out of nowhere, seems to be further supported by the signs of WotC's activity this year. :(

And most likely it'll be a cruddy mix of SW Saga Edition rules with just a bit of D&D rules, tweaked to emphasize collectible-miniatures wargaming, and maybe even make new miniatures purchases necessary just to play the game. Also, it'll probably use vastly, stupidly simplified classes, more prestige class bloat to sell books, more videogamey feel, and more corporate zombification behind it all. :\

I suppose the only hope left is that the Awakening follows and we all start living Shadowrun, so at least some of us can retain our free will and fight the corporate zombies with cyberware, sorcery, and the Somatic Way. :heh:

Hence my sig!

From what I've read about Star Wars: Saga Edition, I'm very tempted to pick it up even though I have no intention of playing it (no real desire for Star Wars at the moment, but the rules I've read about make me swoon).
