The Magician's Nephew can be done last. I mean, there was probably a good reason why it was published later than the others. Besides, it's not like chronology hurt LotR and likely The Hobbit. Sometimes it's cool to have a prequel later on.

:D YES. Looking forward to this. The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe was one of my favorite fantasy flicks. Hopefully this one will build on the previous film's success.

Um well, mostly the fact that it was written later. All but one of the others in the series were written before The Magician's Nephew.

This wasn't a series that was planned out before being written. In fact C.S. Lewis was quite certain he was finished with it after each book, only to find that there was more story to be told.

In Lewis' own words:

“I think I agree with your order [i.e. chronological] for reading the books more than with your mother’s. The series was not planned beforehand as she thinks. When I wrote The Lion I did not know I was going to write any more. Then I wrote P. Caspian as a sequel and still didn't think there would be any more, and when I had done The Voyage I felt quite sure it would be the last. But I found as I was wrong. So perhaps it does not matter very much in which order anyone read them. I’m not even sure that all the others were written in the same order in which they were published” (Dorsett & Mead 1996).

Anyway, I'm looking forward to Prince Caspian and hope that all of the books make it to the big screen. (I just hope they have a good Reepicheep. :D )

They've jazzed it up a bit, haven't they? I don't mind, though: I think the changes in Wardrobe only made it a better movie than a straightforward adaptation would have been.

(I'm still shocked by what happened with The Dark Is Rising.)

The whole point of Magician's Nephew is to reveal the answers to mysteries -- where did the White Witch come from, where did the lamp post come from, where did the talking animals come from, among other things -- and as such I think it's important to read/view it after the clues are laid down. Much more satisfying.

Yeah, I am kind of hoping that I will be Home when it comes out so that I can go see it with my family. I treated the four of us to the first one, so I doubt it would be a hard sell. Even if I am not home, I will encourage them to go see it there while I see it on campus at some point.

If people keep seeing the movies, I'm sure they'll keep making them. The release date for Voyage of the Dawn Treader is already set for May 7, 2010. (Subject to change, of course...)
