The ring issue was resolved during the week without my knowledge. The Bard gave the ring to the wizard. If the bard got anything in return I don't know. I'm glad it's over but I still beleive the Bard had the rightfull claim over it.

Unfortunatly, you now have a wizard who knows he can get his way if he raises enough fuss and acts like a jerk.

I saw this movie once about the One Ring...the fighter was pissed that a chump hobbit had the ring and he wanted it. When he tried to get it the hobbit ran away and then the fighter started crying...then got himself killed protecting some of the hobbits chump friends...who in turn still got caught.

Damn these rings for causing so many problems...maybe rings are broken and should be thrown out of the game.

Bob5th, I hope the rest of the party will stand firm together to prevent any more of this crap. I also hope that the poor kid playing the bard doesn't feel so bad that he quits playing.

The issue is resolved to a even better extent now. The wizard was killed In The Heart of Nightfang Spire. The party had already been involved a big fight and where low on spells when another big fight finds us. The fighter has about 13 hp left I have 19 the bard has 20 or so. The wizard leaves his hiding place and casts a cone of cold on the bad guys and ends up getting the fighter and myself. We both made our saves and took 15 damage. The bard saved the fighter and we finished off the rest of the bad guys but not before one of them hit the wizard and took him down to -40. He was a bit beyond what my raise dead would allow and after the cone of cold I didn't feal like trying.

So now we're free of the wizard but not his player. Says he's trying for a monk next.

Well, the bard should get back at the whiny player by doing the best thing he can do. Make the player's character look bad to the public.

And, if he ever has to get the party out of a rough situation, try to put more of the blame on the ex-wizard's new character. Just little things like that.

But what do I know.. It'd cause more strife within the party, but it'd sure be fun.

Well, it's a little late, but...

One thing I would have done, had I been the bard, is refuse to help the wizard. "Oh, he's at -6 and the cleric's out of healing? That's a shame... What? Yeah, I could heal him, but why should I?" Along similar lines, if the bard doesn't consider the wizard an ally, he shouldn't benefit from bardic music effects.

If the problem player continues to be a problem I'd give him the boot. Especially if he keeps being a problem specifically to the bard's player. It sounds like he's a jerk with a fat case of "I'm older so I'm better" and that crap doesn't lend itself to fun at all.

On the other hand- we have only heard one side of the story, so it's quite possible that the situation was more complicated than Bob5th acknowledges. It's easy to get caught in your own perspective when there are perfectly valid other perspectives on a situation. Still, it sounds like the wizard's player is a metagamer who'd rather cause problems for the group to benefit his character than help the group if it inconveniences his pc. A little backwards, if the party is either lawful or good.

Heart Of Nightfang Spire? Let the body count begin. So far, one down, three to go. Keep us updated. On topic, I'd try not to be harsh on the player controlling the Wizard, as we're getting only one side of the story here. No offense to Bob5th, but he hasn't exactly been objective in his comments about the other player. Only natural, of course, but hey, we don't know both sides of the story.

Really, I don't think it's a good idea to be too judgmental. Good luck to the player with his new character, hopefully it will work out better for him this time and the new character will get along with the party better.

By the way, I'd agree with some of the other posters that you all need to sit down and discuss the issue if you really are angry about the way another player has been acting. If you don't, resentment will just build and build, and that's a sure way to not only fracture a game, but possibly make RL enemies as well. Talk about it now, before peoples feelings become too intense for it to be discussed rationally.

Aha. Metagame knowledge. Otherwise known as "cheating".

Kick the player out. As a DM, I can barely tolerate player knowledge of stuff they shouldn't know (eg. monsters, treasure items). Screw this 'assive-aggressive ****.

Or just make the ring slowly curse the owner. As in "immediately attracts and is coveted by beings more attuned to magic". Let's see... what is more attuned to magic than a wizards... higher level wizards... elemental beings... demons... (;

"Heyyy... nice ring you have dere. Mind if I have it? Oh, and I'm gonna have to splorch your heart so'z I can open the gate back to my plane. No hard feelings, ya know."
