Prolonged Battle Experience

I'm a little confused how I should award experience for this encounter. The party encountered the low level mooks. Who yelled for support and engaged in the fight. The mooks were killed within a round. End of that round the support starts showing up. The support had yelled for BBEG. Support gets beat down in 2 rounds. The BBEG shows up (no action, it took full move to get there), then the last support goes down.
So. How does that award go?
Throw them all in the pot to determine as 1 encounter?
Make it 3 sperate encounters?
Any advice/rules on this?

One encounter or three, what's the difference? You award XP for challenges. Are you assuming some additional ad hoc XP adjustment per encounter or something?

The number of "encounters" is irrelevant to the awarding of XP.

As Infiniti2000 points out, XP is determined based on the challenge. You simply take the CR of each opponent defeated and apply the appropriate XP to each PC.

The number of creatures encountered does factor into the dificulty, as does the rapidity of the encounters. It's more difficult to defeat 3 even CR encounters in succession with no breaks, than if the party gets to rest in between.

So do it as one encounter and there probably should be somewhat of an XP boost given the rapidity of the encounters.

Ugh. OK then. So I've been awarding experience by the 3.0 method. Based on an EL of an encounter. Not by take each pc, and each monster, aka the 3.5 method. I see. Someone, please, slap me upside the head with a book. Sorry about that.
And I might give an exp boost for the rapid encounters, shrug, but then again, I don't think they need it.
