prone attack and threatened areas

Question about the prone attack feat.

If you're prone, you don't threaten anything around you, and thus don't get attacks of opportunity. Prone attack allows you to attack without penalty from the ground, and to stand up as a free action if you hit.

It doesn't say anything about threatening an area, and we've been playing that you still don't get AoOs if you're prone, even with prone attack. Is that right? Does the fact that you can whack people from the ground mean that you threaten them?

Yes, a prone creature still threatens.

Note that any attack, includiing AoOs are at a -4.

Hm. Now I can't figure out why we thought that at all.

Thanks for the help, it looks like we were playing this incorrectly. My fault, I am pretty sure....

Don't worry. There are enough people out there who somehow think you lose your dex bonus to AC while prone
